Michael's Musings

Michael Shinafelt

"You need to just stop
Like can you just not step on my gown?
You need to calm down"
You Need To Calm Down, Taylor Swift

While I understand there are many things to give one pause in the world today, let's keep them in perspective. "Yes" there are some things that should anger/upset/disturb you. Then there's things that the Karen's of the world get mad at.

PS you know who you are and what I'm am addressing, uh-huh, I'm gonna leave that here. Moving on Minions...

Hey Police, my 81 year old Mom has been practicing her falling skills FYI

Doesn't anyone watch Sesame Street anymore?!

There's a sucker born every minute, swallowers are harder to find - The more you know

If you could cure COVID19 by sacrificing just one human, who would it be and why did you choose Trump?

Dear Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute - WTF were you thinking?! Honestly I am surprised this took two years to come out. Neither of you can blame it on your youth either. How entitled of both of you to think you could call the cops on anyone for a crime they did not commit just because you were mad at them for cheating on a friend of yours. Let alone doing it to a Black Woman...Wow, just wow!

Woman Crush of the Week - Judy Garland who would have been 98 yesterday. Why? Because it's Pride Month and her performance in A Star Is Born is nothing short of brilliant!

The Confederate Flag is a symbol of slavery, racism and oppression, but it’s also a symbol of losers getting their ass kicked, just sayin'

Hump Day & Chill

Don't Step On My Blue Suede Shoes
Elvis
"Elvis, Elvis, let me be
Keep that pelvis far from me" - Look At Me I'm Sandra Dee

You ain't nothing but a hound dog this Hump Day & Chill with none other than the King of Skin, Elvis! What?! You weren't actually expecting the King of Rock in the flesh now, were you? Were you???

While this Elvis does have his swagger it's of an entirely different kind, the carnal kind. Wait the other Elvis had that too, Hmmmmmmmm, how to define the difference is the question?

I have the answer to that question, see the difference for yourself by having a Hump Day & Chill moment and clicking on the link below to Tye Briggs Favorite Hunks & Other Things to enjoy the Full Elvis.

That's correct Minions, the Full Elvis, if you get my drift and I believe you do...

Where there's a will, there's a Hump Day & Chill after all!!!

Class Of 2020

The Immaculate Hear Of Mary
Class Of 2020

Congratulations to the Class of 2020, you made it! Too bad about the pandemic, but there have been many inventive and wonderful ways your graduation year has been and will be celebrated. For instance this past weekend when I was walking by The Immaculate Heart Of Mary they were having a parking lot graduation.

Basically everyone sat in their cars as the ceremony took place, when the students name was called out they were to don their mask and go up to the stage to accept their diploma. Clever, fun and still full of the possibility of the usual Graduation Day embarrassment.

People have taken to the streets to salute you and famous world figures have recorded special messages and songs on YouTube just for you.

Let's face it you special day may not have been the usual pomp and circumstance, but it will always be very special, because of how unique it was, you will have some very amazing memories when you look back on this. I am going to leave you with President Obama and his wife Michelle with their message to you.

Congrats to all of you, well done!!!

Monday Motivation

Black Lives Matter
Hollywood Blvd.

Today's Monday Motivation is real and spectacular! This is Hollywood Blvd. yesterday were it looks like practically all of Los Angeles turned out for the Black Lives Matter protest.

Whats amazing to me about this is not only did this happen during a pandemic, but this is way bigger than any crowd that Orange Caligula has drawn for anything he's ever done. No wonder Bunker Boy is scared and put up a fence around the White House.

Let this inspire and instill our faith in the good of people. I feel it's the perfect note to start your week off on.

"I awakened to the cry
That the people have the power
To redeem the work of fools
Upon the meek the graces shower
It' s decreed the people rule" - People Have The Power, Patti Smith

Cherie Currie (The Runaways), Suzi Quatro & Nick Gilder  Perform "Roxy Roller" "At Home."

Video edited by  17 year old Runaways Fan

Cherie Currie's new album Blvds of Splendor, produced by Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver) is out now and features the classic “Roxy Roller.

For this special, one-of-a-kind “At Home”performance, 17 year old Runaways fan (Isaac Valiente) edited the video. Cherie (vocals) enlisted special quests Suzi Quatro (vocals), Nick Gilder (vocals), her son Jake Hays (rhythm guitar & backing vocals), Perry Farrell guitarist Nick Maybury and Phil Leavitt(drums) & Joie Calio(bass) of the bands Dada & 7 Horse on the standout track "Roxy Roller" (also written by Nick Gilder) - ROXY ROLLER

"With life in lockdown and the surprise release of Blvds of Splendor, the first song that came to mind for a quarantine video was "Roxy Roller."  My son Jake and I sat down in front of a camera and singing to an acoustic electric we filmed the building block of the song.  I am so lucky and blessed to have amazing musicians as friends to reach out to and all were more than giving of their time for this. I then reached out to my dear friend Suzi Quatro, then Nick Gilder who again were so giving of their time. The cherry on top was meeting Isaac Valiente on FB. He's a 17 year old self taught video editor who stole my heart with his love for music and a giant ball of humble talent. And there you have it. A great video born of love and support in a time where that’s really all that matters."

"Was asked by my good friend Cherie to be part of this. After her wonderful contribution to my documentary SUZI Q (premiering in July  in the USA), and even writing a song about me, which was the closing song of the film...... well...excuse me... did I have a choice!! I  didn't even have to learn the song because I recorded it myself in 1976. Good old Roxy, she certainly has made the rounds hasn't she!! (wink, wink)."  Suzi xx"

"Making this video with Cherie and Suzi is especially poignant for me. I met Cherie and her twin sister Marie at my very first show in LA back in the day at the iconic Doug Weston's Troubadour.  Having Cherie cover my song "Roxy" on her fantastic new CD Blvds of Splendor is simply wonderful! It really rocks and to have Suzi who also recorded an impressive version help with this video is an absolute treat I hope you all enjoy our efforts, thanks!" Nick Gilder

Blvds of Splendor  features guest collaborations with Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, Slash and Duff from Guns N’ Roses, as well as Juliette Lewis, Brody Dalle, The Veronicas and drummer Matt Sorum. The special digital only release features three bonus tracks (including a remake of The Runaways classic “Queens of Noise” featuring Brody Dalle, The Veronicas, Juliette Lewis and Matt Sorum paying homage to late Runaways drummer Sandy West).  Album available on Blackheart Records HERE

What Would Jason Sudeikis Do?

Nice Shorts
Jason Sudeikis
After another trying week in the world at large, I woke this morning to this quite inviting image of one Jason Sudeikis, and thought to myself "What Would Jason Sudeikis Do?"

Maybe not as thought provoking as the TV Show What Would You Do? Hosted by John Quinones, but hey Jason looks so sexy in his shorts and scruff, so I choose my basic instincts today.

It turns out Jason is headed out to his office in Silverlake, CA - Damn! Why don't you come up and see me sometime, stud?

Quarantine is giving me all sorts of feels this ayem. I need some kicks below that waistline, sunshine.

And now a word from out sponsor...

Mic Drop!

Film Buff Friday: America As Seen By A Frenchman

At the end of the 1950s, celebrated French documentarian François Reichenbach (F for Fake, Portrait: Orson Welles), whose lens captured the likes of Brigitte Bardot and Johnny Hallyday, spent eighteen months traveling the United States, documenting its diverse regions, their inhabitants and their pastimes. The result, America is Seen by a Frenchman, is a wide-eyed - perhaps even naïve - journey through a multitude of different Americas, filtered through a French sensibility and serving as a fascinating exploration of a culture that is both immediately familiar and thoroughly alien. Prison rodeos; Miss America pageants; visits to Disneyland and a school for striptease; a town inhabited solely by twins; rows of newborns in incubators, like products on an assembly line - all these weird and wondrous sights, and more, are captured, sans jugement, by Reichenbach's camera, aided by whimsical narration (provided by, among others, Jean Cocteau) and a jaunty musical score by the late, great Michel Legrand (Une femme est une femme). Titled L'Amérique insolite - literally "unusual America" - in its native tongue, America as Seen by a Frenchman lovingly renders the various eccentricities of Americana circa the mid-twentieth century, and proves the old adage that reality really is stranger than fiction.
