Michael's Musings

Electric Dreams
Michael Shinafelt
"It's too bad that all these things, Can only happen in my dreams
Only in dreams, in beautiful dreams" In Dreams, Roy Orbison

With all the static swirling around us in this mad, mad world it's nice to know we all have dreams. Dreams are a beautiful thing, never lose sight of yours. Unless of course that dream becomes a nightmare. When that happens you click your eyelids together three times and say "This is Bullsh!t time to wake up!"

I have no time to do anything, yet somehow I am always caught up on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (which, thankfully wrapped it's season this week)

Once when I looked at your Instagram feed I put a ______ in my _______ . Oh yeah, it's time to fill in those blanks minions.

It's time to break out the Pringles

How about those Democratic Debates? Answer me, how about them?

Monday Motivation

The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Tim Curry aka Dr. Frank N. Furter

"Don't Dream It, Be It. Don't Dream It, Be It..." - The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Today's Monday Motivation comes in the form of dreams. Without dreams life would be a tedious affair. Dreams of what you want from life, or they can just be a flat out fantasy to get you through an otherwise mundane day.

Dreams are essential to our well being. Without them we would be nothing, and vice versa. The Rocky Horror Picture Show's number "Don't Dream It, Be It" has always been a go to source of inspiration. If you seriously have to ask why then you truly do not get the RHPS

Push the boundaries of your life and the expectations placed upon you and others and never look back with any regrets. Anything someone else can do you can do as well as long as you believe in your power of you.

This Monday December 10, 2018 be it damn it, don't merely dream it....

Oh, and a gentle reminder, 15 more days until Christmas in case you give a F#ck. How many F#cks do I give about that? Current tally 0 - I'm to busy being it, not dreaming it...

So let's get this Monday started - go out and be your own Sweet Transvestite!

Dreams Do Come True!

When Willow Met Rihanna
After a very underwhelming Grammy telecast last night (yes there were a few great moments, but...) comes my favorite part of any award show. "Yes" this is where I honor my favorite Instagram or Twitter moment from last night's festivities.

This year the honor goes to Pink for posting a photo of her daughter Willow with Rihanna on her Instagram captioning it: "Dreams come true. My daughter lives for this woman. So do I"

Awwwwwwww...there really is something charming about kids getting to meet their idols, no?

This pic is too precious for words. Thus I will halt the use of any more adjectives to describe it right here right now.

Now tell me again why you don't like Mondays???

"Call Me Mrs. Efron Already"

Put A Ring On It
Simone Biles & Zac Efron
Dreams do come true! No, the byline does not refer to me, even though it is no secret I have a thing for Zac Efron, I certainly would not be telling you to call me his Mrs. More like "Call me Daddy, Zac."

No the title of "Mrs. Efron" belongs to four time Gold Medal winner at the Rio Summer
Olympics gymnast Simone Biles who copped to having a big ole crush on Zac

"He kissed me on the cheek just letting y'all know" Biles proclaimed on her Twitter account upon meeting her Prince.

I'll let it slide this time Simone since you are Gold and all, but next time you need to clear it with Zac's Daddy if his boy can come out and play.

Dolly Parton Werk's It, To 13 Million!

"DOLLY PARTON'S COAT OF MANY COLORS" NUMBER ONE TELEVISION PROGRAM DURING TIME SLOT, WINS HEARTS OF 13 MILLION VIEWERS

Most-Watched Film on Broadcast Networks Since May 2012

Dolly Parton for the tugging at your heart strings win!!!

Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors” captivated the hearts of 13 million when the TV-movie aired on NBC Thursday night.

The heartwarming film about following your dreams, having faith and keeping love alive despite tough times attracted 13 million viewers and a 1.8 in adults 18-49. It was the most watched movie on broadcast TV in more than 3 years.

Reviewers across the country raved about the NBC TV-movie:

Los Angeles Times, Dec. 10, 2015
“‘Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors' manages to be clear- and misty-eyed at once”
“Like Parton's music, it manages to be somehow clear- and misty-eyed at once, a mix of the natural and the sentimental”
“…a handsome piece, with some sweet performances.”
- Robert Lloyd

Huffington Post, Dec. 10, 2015
“Lind has a winning screen presence. In fact, she dominates the film…”
“Dolly Parton offers to wrap you up for two hours in a world that's cozy, comforting and warm.”
- David Hinckley

Washington Post, Dec. 9, 2015
“Leave it to Dolly Parton to bring out an innocuously sweet, faith-based, prime-time Christmas movie right in the middle of a religious and political culture war …”
“… pure-hearted and credible…”
- Hank Stuever

The film is set in the Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains in 1955. It is neither a biopic nor musical about Parton’s whole life and performing career, but rather a family-oriented faith-based story about the incidents in her and her family’s life around the time she was 9 years old.

“Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors” will stream for 25 days from broadcast on NBC.com, NBC apps and Set-Top Box On Demand.

Pride! "You Are My Family"

Tis the season for Pride, and with that Joe Gauthreaux releases his latest production, “You Are My Family”, a song that celebrates the tightest of friendships and features vocals by the diva of dance, Inaya Day.  Of course it's a dance record, but it also has elements of pop, EDM, and gospel house. “It's a song I'm extremely proud of because it keeps changing as you go along and it has a really good payoff in the end with the gospel breakdown,” Mr. Gauthreaux says.  He cops to throwing out all of his conventional ways of producing dance music on “You Are My Family”. “I wanted this song to make a difference in people's lives beyond the nightclub. I didn’t want to sacrifice the emotional element for the sake of making it a dance record. I can always make a club mix later.”

So I asked Joe to sock it to me, and tell me what his top five songs are for Gay Pride!

5.  Madonna - Living For Love - Her best single in a long time and the message is timely. Love is what it is all about!

4.  Taylor Swift - Welcome to New York - I just did a mash up to this and I featured the part where she says "... and you can want who you want, boys & boys, and girls & girls..."

3.  Fleetwood Mac - Dreams (Joe Gauthreaux & David Marc 2014 Club Mix) - I love the line "thunder only happens when it's raining" - it's a metaphor for the gay community making things happen when we protest, and have our voices be heard as one.

2.  Aretha Franklin - Pride (A Deeper Love) - This one speaks for itself! A classic that never gets old.

1.  Joe Gauthreaux featuring Inaya Day - You Are My Family - Because without the ones we love surrounding us, being there for us through thick & thin, pride has no meaning.

Give "You Are My Family" a listen after the jump!
