Dr. Nina's Tips On How To Treat Yourself For Halloween

It's Dr. Nina
Dr. Nina Savelle-Rocklin, Psy.D. aka Dr. Nina has made a house call to Entertain Me a couple of times before.

Nina specializes in eating disorders by digging to the root of where the problem lies. She encourages people to Win The Diet War by finding the real issue at hand. Last year I had her dole out her wisdom about how to navigate what I like to call "The Eating Season," you know that time between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve.

This year I got to thinking that no one ever really addresses Halloween. So I paged Dr. Nina and asked her if she would be willing to take on my favorite day of the year with her usual flair in the spirit of the season.

I promise this is not a trick, Dr. Nina is here with some awesome tips on how to treat yourself for Halloween!

1.  Afraid of the dark?  The scariest thoughts are the dark ideas you have about yourself.  Keep out thoughts like, "I suck" or "I'm too fat/stupid/ugly" or "Who would love me?"    Those thoughts just make you feel terrible about yourself.  And that's truly frightening.

Boo!
2.  Got ghosts?  If the ghosts of the past are haunting you, it's time to deal with them.  If you had a critical parent, teacher or sibling, and you find yourself being equally critical to yourself, that critical voice belongs to others, not to you.  Find your authentic voice, and view yourself as you are, not as others treated you.

3.  Give yourself a treat.  If you find yourself saying, "I'm going to be good this Halloween and not eat a single piece of candy," or "I was so bad because I ate that pumpkin cheesecake," then you're connecting your character to what you eat.  Allow yourself to eat candy on Halloween without feeling guilty.  Deprivation or anticipation of deprivation leads to overeating.   If you give yourself permission to have candy you may actually eat less!

"Just Say No"
4.  Living a zombie life?  Do you feel as if you're the walking dead, doing the same thing day after day, not truly enjoying your life to the fullest?  If so, bring yourself back to life.  Think about one thing that you've been waiting to do "one day" and make today the day you start working towards doing that thing.  If you want to run a marathon, go for a walk or a short run.  If you want to start dating, go online and check out some dating sites.

5.  Be playful.  Remember the fun of going out with your friends on Halloween?  This occasion is about being with other people, dressing up, and having fun.  So, have a great time.  Happy Halloween!!

Adam Levine Is A Stalker

Adam Levine & His Wife, Model Behati Prinsloo
Give Us A Halloween Treat
"Baby I'm preying on you tonight
Hunt you down eat you alive
Just like animals" - "Animals" Maroon 5

That's right, Adam Levine is going as a stalker for Halloween in the video for the latest Maroon 5 single: Animals.

His costume of choice is quite controversial apparently among organizations that are advocates for stopping violence against women.

Everyone has the right to their opinion, and here's mine. Having seen the video and being a fan of horror, to me this is pretty standard fare and no big deal.

Personally I find Anaconda by Nicki Minaj or Robin Thicke's date rape song Blurred Lines way more offensive and degrading to women than Animals.

Animals is essentially a short slasher film about a stalker that has premiered during the perfect time of the year, Halloween. Translation, it's a great video and brilliant marketing, nothing more.

Sorry if I do not share in the outrage over something that is seen in TV shows and movies all the time.

I love the video, it's creepy, sexy and has great imagery, everything a gritty horror movie should be! Check it out below!

Comedian Matt McClowry Has A Fear Of Trojan Condoms

Matt McClowry
Matt McClowry "Uncomfortable"
available digitally on October 7th

Since this is the season of things that scare, Matt McClowry admits to his fear of Trojan Condoms in the YouTube clip posted below.

If you have not ever heard of Matt, well here's your chance to check him out, don't be afraid...

Diagnosed with a high-functioning form of Autism called Asperger's as a teen,
he has spent more than a decade overcoming the syndrome by honing
his stand-up skills on comedy stages across the country.

"McClowry is a tall, clean-cut comedian out of Detroit. His standup is smart and analytical, full of unexpected leaps of logic, and delivered in a deep, distinctive deadpan.
He's funny and engaging." - CityArts

There's no one quite like Matt McClowry. An awkward, gentle soul trapped in a hulking physique, Matt has been surprising audiences for nearly a decade, putting a sharp edge to universal topics like family, relationships, and modern life. Born and raised outside of Detroit, McClowry began his pursuit of a stand up career in 2004 by signing up for a local open-mike night, and his comedy has taken off from there. Over the past 10 years, he has built up both his confidence and writing skills and he now enjoys a reputation as one of the strongest acts in the Midwest.
Part of what gives Matt's comedy a truly unique edge is the fact that he is a high-functioning individual with Asperger's Syndrome. Matt does not fit the stereotypical picture of someone with Asperger's and fans often question him on that point. He finds himself to be much more comfortable on stage than off stage. One common symptom of Asperger's Syndrome is not recognizing humor, and despite being a professional comedian, McClowry is not immune to struggling with that. He has found ways to push past this obstacle and uses Asperger's to influence his career in a positive way.
There have been many highlights in Matt's career so far. He has performed at the Boston Comedy Festival, Gilda's LaughFest, The Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, and The Bridgetown Comedy Festival.

He was a winner at The World Series of Comedy, he has performed at the Oddball Comedy Festival, opened for Whitney Cummings and Marc Maron, and has appeared with Bill Burr at Flappers Comedy Club in Los Angeles. He has been seen on Comcast Television and been heard on Sirius XM Radio.

"With a voice for radio and movie star looks, McClowry can be intense and a bit intimidating in person. He's tall, with broad shoulders and eyes that look right through you. At one point in his life, he considered a career in professional wrestling; seriously or not, one look at him and you can see the possibility. But on stage, he becomes your smart-mouthed brother who dares you not to laugh, and you want to get to know him better - signs of a real star." - Gary Allison, Daily Tribune

Marie Osmond Transforms Herself...

Yes, It Really Is Marie Osmond
Into The Bride of Frankenstein! Yes, it's totally true!

Not only does she portray Frankenstein's mate, she also does Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Madonna and Elizabeth Taylor. Hey what can't this amazing woman do?!

Why you may ask? Well there is a reason...it's for "Showstopper" a new production number in the Donny and Marie Show at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas.

Marie has always been my favorite Osmond. Even though she was "a little bit country" and I am more Rock-N-Roll. I used to sit glued to the TV set when the Donny & Marie show was on.

Marie, For Real
She is an icon to me and what makes her special is she has always been kind, compassionate, honest and above all real.

Her ups and downs are well documented in the press and through it all Ms. Osmond has always remained strong and fluid as a human being.

I greatly admire her moxie and intelligence. Not to mentions she is an A + entertainer & personality.

A note to the judges of Dancing With The Stars, who dissed Marie's freestyle to The Rolling Stone's "Start Me Up" - it was awesome and perhaps one day you will realize the error of your judgement, perhaps...in the meantime let's make believe and play dress up with Marie and all of her amazing transformations in the video below!

"Where Are The Freaks? I'm Getting Bored!"

Spiders To The Max!
It's October, my faaaaaaaavorite time of year, and anyone who follows this blog knows why.

Because it's when the freaks come out, not just at night, but twenty-four hours seven days a week..Wicked!

Yep, I am a horror junkie, thus I love Halloween and to me, it is a month long celebration.

Thus every year at this time all posts I make for the entire month will be directly or, via my creative imagination, related to the high holy day.

A few examples of last year's horrific fun for those who might be uninitiated are:

Which Way To Pet Sematary?
An interview with Fiona Dourif, the daughter of Chucky literally. About her lead role in the latest sequel to the homicidal doll series Curse of Chucky.

Margaret Cho on her love of Ouija Boards.

Traci Lords chiming in on why she avoids mirrors.

Also, there is my annual Halloween fun with fellow horror lover, author M.E. Franco.

Yes, I do have some awesome shocks, cool surprises and freaky stuff coming your way this month, but most of all, prepare to be entertained!

The photos accompanying this piece are courtesy of Me, Myself and I. They were shot at Horror/Supernatural/Erotic author James Buchanan's annual Halloween shindig.

Speaking of "freaky" let's kick off October 1st 2014 with the latest trailer via Buzzfeed for American Horror Story: Freak Show...Step right up, Boo!

Avi Kaplan is "All About That Bass"

Mario, Avi & Naomi Are Hungry!

How perfect is this Pentatonix fans? Avi Kaplan the baritone of the super group has a cover out of All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor.

As you know that's why Meghan recorded it in the first place, so this song that is tailor made to Mr. Kaplan's talents would be done by him Avi style. You know I'm kidding, right?!

Avi has brought along a couple of partners in crime to accompany him as well. This song make-over also features Mario Jose and Naomi Samilton. Along with two plates of french fries and one plate stacked with cheeseburgers...Yummy!

I'd like a cheeseburger, fries and a side of bass please!
