Saturday Sinema: Deadly Manor

An old, dark house... A maniac on the loose... An orgy of bloodlust! All the hallmarks of late master of Spanish macabre José Ramón Larraz (Edge of the Axe, Vampyres) are present and correct in 1990's Deadly Manor - the final horror movie from one of the genre's most unheralded filmmakers. Whilst en route to a lake, a group of youngsters make an unscheduled stop-off at a remote, seemingly abandoned mansion where they plan to spend the night. But the property is full of foreboding signs - a blood-stained car wreck in the garden, coffins in the basement, scalps in the closet, and photographs of a beautiful but mysterious woman adorning every corner of the house. Before daybreak, the group will unwittingly uncover the strange and terrifying truth that lurks behind the walls of this dreadful place. The last in a trio of transcontinental slice-and-dice co-productions helmed by Larraz towards the end of the 80s (all of which which he directed under the anglicized moniker of Joseph Braunstein), Deadly Manor - released on VHS in the US under the title Savage Lust - is a fitting capper to the director's prolific career in fear, now finally unearthed for the first time on Blu-ray.

Today's Monday Motivation comes in the form of leaving a lasting impression...for example the movie When Harry Met Sally which just celebrated it's thirty year anniversary with stars Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan in attendance.

I mean who could ever forget Meg's fake orgasm scene smack dab in the middle of a deli. Or the chemistry she and Crystal had. "Yes" this is one of those movies that left and impression and still resonates with fans and audiences today.

Thus today's task is to be the best you, you can possibly be and leave a positive lasting impression on someone, or someones. 

We are all unique and have a quality that is ours and nobody else's - but please note that I said make a lasting positive impression. Negative ones stick to you like super glue and are not what you want peeps to remember you for.

The reboot of Tomb Raider opens today, thus I bring you this striking image of Alicia Vikander aka Lara Croft poised and ready to hit you with her best shot, bow & arrow style.

While I did see the original with Angelina Jolie I will be sitting this one out. Why? It has nothing to do with Vikander, it has to do with my taste changing. There was a time I would go see pretty much anything I was such a rabid movie goer. Well things have changed and I no longer have time for that.

Translation: Most movies are not that great and or can be viewed in the comfort of your own home. I am quite choosy about what I will spend $$$ on to go see in a theater...and guess what action films are not really my thing. They have to have more layers to them than fancy stunts and set pieces to entice this guy. Since most of them are that and only that, you get the pic.

Digressing a little I do like Vikander, she is a top notch actress and if anyone can breathe life into the role of Lara Croft it's her.

Best wishes Alicia I wish you all the success in the world with this, I however will wait for you next drama.

Everything about this costume is perfection, including the fact that she actually bears a striking resemblance to Olivia Newton-John who played the role in the film.

So the teaser for the upcoming Absolutely Fabulous movie is out! 

And well it looks, should I say it? Shall I go all redundant on your ass? No, you know what the fuck I was going to say!

Unlike Star Wars, which I got over after the three anemic prequels. Yes, I did not see nor have any motivation to view Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Unless the Force awakening people involves certain sex acts that dare not speak their name on this blog.

Which brings me to my enduring love of Absolutely Fabulous! It's all about the sex, yes sweetie darling it is.  Not to mention the chemistry between Joanna Lumley as Patsy Stone and Jennifer Saunders as Edina Monsoon is off the hook!!!
