"Solo"

Did you spend Valentine's Day "Solo?"

TINA DECARA RELEASES ANTHEM ON THE POWER OF BEING ALONE: “SOLO”

Pop singer Tina DeCara follows-up her smash single “Illusion” — its had over one million Spotify streams — with “Solo,” a song about loving yourself when you’re at your loneliest.  “I’ve been solo for a while and though most days, I’m cool with not having a special someone to kick it with, there are times my mood swings so low,” admits Tina. It was during one of these down periods that she wrote her new single.   “I sat with a bottle of wine and had a little pity party in my music journal,” she remembers.  But oddly, what emerged wasn’t a sad song about being lonely, but a celebration of self-love and embracing time spent alone.  Tina DeCara’s “Solo” is being released through Big Management and is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and all other major retailers, as well as for streaming through Pandora and Spotify.  Its video is on Youtube.

“My message for anyone struggling to make it through another day is to take a moment to breath and relax.  Don’t try to solve your problems all at once.  Tackle issues one at a time and give yourself a moment to rest in between so you are strong enough for the next battle.”

DeCara admits she often struggles with sad feelings.  “Pursuing pop star dreams is hard.  One day, I’m on top of the world and the next I’m back at square one.  It gets lonely being in the big city, away from home and everyone that I love.”

When she’s feeling isolated, she listens to records, and the day DeCara wrote the song that would become “Solo,” she had been sent a new instrumental produced by The Drupes.    “It was pretty popish, with a bop your head around and dance to it happy kinda vibe,” she explains. “But somehow my melancholy lyrics worked  well with it.”

She went to a studio in Queens and recorded the single in about two hours. “It was a great session.  The energy was high.”

Tina DeCara grew up on Long Island with her parents and two brothers. She began singing and songwriting in high school, drawing inspiration from the likes of David Bowie, Lady Gaga, and Amy Winehouse.  While her friends were not supportive of her superstar dreams, her family encouraged her to follow her passion.

“I was surprised by all the negativity I received from kids I had chosen to have in my life.   I quickly cut them out.”

She says one of the biggest challenges as an artist is finding yourself and learning what your voice is capable of.   “I write about how I’m feeling and then I put some unexpected twist on it,” she explains.  “It’s an incredibly personal process so I try not to focus on what is going on outside my bubble.”

The music video for “Solo” echoes these sentiments.  Directed by David Wept and shot in and around Coney Island, the video depicts Tina DeCara celebrating the one person who matters most in her life.

“Though I’m solo, for the most part, I’m always giggling.  I work hard, I’m determined and if I have a little unhealthy obsession over buying wigs, what’s it to you? Until I’m a duo, I’m just goin’ to do me.”

Wonder Woman Friday

Wonder Women
Gal Gadot & Lynda Carter
Since I stumbled upon the set stage for the Wonder Woman premiere before it began last week in Hollywood I thought I might as well give the movie's opening space on my blog.

I mean seriously couldn't we all use Wonder Woman in our lives stat? With a rouge President and and uncertain future for the U.S. she is exactly the voice and presence the world needs ASAP!

Whether I see the film or not, it is getting great reviews and leading lady Gal Gadot has been deemed a worthy successor to Lynda Carter who made the character famous on television.

Also the photo taken at the premiere above of Lynda passing the proverbial torch to Gal put a smile on my face. After this past week, this is personally what I needed, and I feel it is a pretty safe bet the majority of you feel the same.

So this weekend unleash your inner Wonder Woman, and use your powers for the betterment of the world we live in.

That goes for you too men, we all have a Wonder Woman in us!

"Beautifully Squeezed Tube Of Toothpaste" Rihanna

Your Hand Is Like Blue Velevt
Rihanna & Chris Martin
Coldplay's consciously un-coupled frontman Chris Martin recently gave an in depth interview to The Guardian where he spoke quite highly of  Rihanna.

You know Rihanna, the music superstar who was featured on Colplay's Princess Of China? You know, her.

Well Martin came up with a strange/beautiful/WTF? analogy to describe Rihanna's voice.

It's like a "Beautifully squeezed tube of toothpaste" he said.

This is a huge compliment when you think about it. How many times has anyone ever used a tube of toothpaste squeezed in a way that would make you feel you did it "beautifully" and utilized the whole freakin' thing? Yeah, I thought not.

Wow! Wished Chris would have dispensed some of these gems about ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, but perhaps those analogies were not nearly as endearing.

James Durbin @ The Viper Room 1/3/2014

James Durbin kicked off his 2014 acoustic tour last night at The Viper Room in Los Angeles, CA -
and of course I was there!

This is the way I like James live and raw, his voice is simply amazing on it's own without the recording studio wizardry.

So all you Durbinators out there, if James is coming to a venue near you, get yourself to one, or miss out big time!

My personal favorite of the evening was when James let loose on an acoustic version of "Higher Than Heaven" - Wow!

Here are photos by yours truly (except for the one of me and James, his publicist took that) from last night as as well as the remaining dates on James tour, enjoy!

Yep, I Was Standing Right In Front Of Him

Chanteuse Sandy Zacky Speaks Out About Parkinson's

Sandy Zacky
Resident "Entertain Me" Chanteuse, Sandy Zacky recently spoke out about the ravages of Parkinson's when the news about Linda Ronstadt broke out. Linda was one of Sandy's favorite artists -

That being said Sandy also has a lot of first hand experience with Parkinson's, her husband, Ron has it as well.

She speaks so eloquently about Linda losing her the gift of her singing voice as well as about her husband Ron losing his speaking voice to his horrible disease that I found it worth re-posting.

Our voice, whether it be singing or speaking is the most important thing we have as human beings while we are alive. Either of them is a terrible thing to lose. Here is a re-print of Ms. Zacky's statement:

"Just heard about Linda Ronstadt, one of the finest singers in my estimation, ever. She can sing all genres so well. I just heard her the other day on Sirrius radio singing some songs from The American Songbook. It was beautifully done, I was totally impressed with her interpretation and vocals.

                                                Linda Ronstadt "Blue Bayou"

My husband has suffered from Parkinson's disease for several years now. It is a terrible disease that robs an individual of so much but most of all the essence of who they have always been. My husbands voice has weakened greatly over the years. Just his ability to converse can be difficult for him at times. I can only imagine as a singer how awful it must be to not be able to share the extraordinary gift that she had so long shared with those of us who so enjoyed her music.

My best to her and I pray she finds some joy in the love that is sent her way from her devoted fans"

Sandy & Her Husband Ron

Very well put Ms. Z.
