Film Buff Friday: Jesus Shows You The Way To The Highway

What do you get when you cross Afro-futurism, Cold War paranoia, the dystopian world of Philip K. Dick and 60s exploitation cinema, along with a hefty dose of Lynchian surrealism? The answer: Jesus Shows You the Way to the Highway, the second feature by Miguel Llansó (Crumbs) and one of the most striking and original films you'll see all year. The year is 2035, and Special Agent Gagano (Daniel Tadesse, Crumbs) dreams of leaving the CIA to open a business with his wife Malin (Gerda-Annette Allikas). Before he can hand in his resignation, however, a strange cyber virus attacks Psychobook, the CIA's operating system, forcing Gagano to enter cyberspace via virtual reality to combat the threat. Before long, however, the virus starts to reach out into the real world, destabilising the fragile socio-political order for its own ends, and Gagano, trapped in the VR world, must find a way out before it's too late. Featuring encounters with an Irish-accented Joseph Stalin, a kung-fu-fighting Batman, and Jesus Christ himself, to name but a few, Jesus Shows You the Way to the Highway is absurd, audacious and like nothing you've ever experienced before.

Michael's Musings

Current Mood
Michael Shinafelt

This week I am recovering from cataract surgery, thus the use of a throwback photo of yours truly instead of some new one. Because in case you didn't get the memo, like me, your eye when healing from it looks red and bloody. Aside from that I can see quite clear which I could not before. Oh and it's my left eye in case you were wondering which way I swing...

I love a Cheating Cheeto who encourages their cult following to commit voter fraud, I also love a whole bag of jellybeans shoved up my booty, yeah right!!!

Bitches be trippin' - OK maybe I pushed a few

Just flew in on a plane full of thugs, it was delightful

Sometimes your hair is performance art

Thinking about Chadwick Boseman what an amazing, uplifting human being

Black Mirror really outdid themselves. We are experiencing season six, rather than watching it on Netflix

Leave your bubble, it's too crowded

It takes a pandemic in Los Angeles to make people monogamous

Woman Crush of the Week - Tilda Swinton because who doesn't love a hand held butterfly mask?

Joe Biden could pass a drug test, just saying...

If you want people to stop protesting bad things, stop doing bad things

Rather die than wear a mask? Feel free to do so

Ever kick back and think: WTF is happening?!

Take time to laugh today, I mean it!!!

Hump Day & Chill

The Gilmore Boy
Ben Gilmore

Another Wednesday another Hump Day & Chill Pandemic style. Actually this one is so very Pandemic as the photo shoot of today's Hump Day & Chill subject, actor Ben Gilmore was shot in May.

Every wonder why an actor takes it all off for photographs? There are many angles and reasons and Tye Briggs chat with Ben for his Favorite Hunks & Other Things blog is here to shed light on those reasons, at least Ben's.

I always like it when Tye gets to the meat of things, so to speak. What's that, will Ben place a Hump Day & Chill in your, uh, you know what?

Well he does mine, and I'm pretty sure many of you will concur.

So another day in the Pandemic USA, let's live our best lives and Hump Day & Chill to Ben at the link below.

Don't forget to wash your hands before and especially after!

"I Was Wearing Face Shields Before It Was A Thing"

The Look
Lady Gaga

This past Sunday the MTV Video Music Awards happened. "No" I didn't watch, from the looks of things perhaps I should have. At least they acknowledged the Pandemic (unlike a certain orange piece of fecal matter I can think of) - and looks like they put on a great show in spite of it (it's amazing how restrictions can trigger creativity)

Giving birth to the quote "I Was Wearing Face Shields Before It Was A Thing" that was uttered by the star of the evening Lady Gaga. Gaga made her entrance paying homage to iconic VMA Statue and proceeded to make masks fashion and fun throughout the rest of the affair.

Thus I am leaving you with Lady Gaga giving us mask fashion realness and providing levity during the Pandemic that is still afoot. You're Welcome 😎

Monday Motivation

Rolling In The Deep
Adele

Like basically everyone I have put on some weight during the Pandemic, and like basically everyone I am now working on losing it. Well there are some individuals who actually became svelter during this time. One of them happens to be Adele.

While I liked curvy Adele just fine, and judging by here album and concert sales everyone else did too. Her weight loss is the Monday Motivation to inspire mine that I, and perhaps you need (I can't speak to what inspires you, I can only speak to your love for Adele.)

My guess is Adele lost the pounds for herself, without pressure from the entertainment industry since being heavier never stopped her from becoming a superstar.

Therein lies the key to weight loss Minions, trust me from one who lost 50 lbs. you have to be ready to rumble with your bad self and make yourself submit to your desire.

Monday Motivation indeed, so be it!

A Girl Like Me: Letters To My Lovers also features a gorgeous cover of the Carole King classic, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.” "Obviously, I'm a Carole King fan. I love the lyrics, which I think are incredibly relatable in queer relationships and encounters as well as casual moments that may or may not turn into something more. The possibility of a relationship is usually inhibited by social stigma and fear of being seen in public with a trans woman." says Peppermint.

"Body Politics"

Ace Harper
Photo:
Matt Petranovic

Choreographer, singer-songwriter, visual artist and fashion designer Ace Harper releases her brand new single & video for "Body Politics" via Sonic Pill Label.  Click HERE

"I wrote “Body Politics” about having autonomy over one’s body as a woman. I see all women as beautiful. Every color, size, and age. Radical self love and acceptance of others is the new punk rock. If you aren’t here for inclusivity you are going to be left behind. This song is a celebration of imperfection and authenticity! I am vehement about empowering all women and sharing my own life experience. There has never been a better time for females to be bold and to lead in every industry. It’s an exciting time.” says Ace

Ace’s journey began in Oklahoma. As a child she studied ballet and then later was asked to travel the US assisting top choreographers. She traded the Midwest for Los Angeles and spent years as a professional dancer working with a myriad of music legends such as Lenny Kravitz, Jennifer Lopez, Duran Duran and famed director David LaChapelle to name a few. In the midst of her dance career she constantly wrote songs and collected ideas, quietly assembling a sound of her own.

After a storied career in the dance world, Ace started creative directing her own stage shows. Performance art, fashion, and visuals now encapsulates Ace’s kaleidoscope of creativity.

Ace is married to Rock n Roll Hall of Fame drummer Matt Sorum of Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver, so glamour, travel, and excess is in her blood.  Learn more about Ace here: http://www.aceharper.com/music
