Leonard Nimoy most known for his iconic role as Spock on the TV series Star Trek, which later spawned a string of successful movies with the original cast and then a later a new one has passed away.

While I was never into Star Trek I respect it's place in television history and the cultural impact it has had.

So I asked my friend and Trekkie Rhonda Bernstein to speak to the passing of Mr. Nimoy:

"I was very saddened and surprised to hear of his passing. Spock, as written and portrayed by Nimoy, was truly an iconic figure and one of the most complex, endearing and enduring characters in all the Star Trek iterations. Nimoy used his fame to advance numerous artistic and charitable causes.  His lifetime of achievements, both before and off the screen, enriched us all."

Singer-songwriter Trevor Hall has announced the release of a new EP Unpack Your Memories, due out on Vanguard Records on March 27^th. This five song collection includes some of Hall’s most personal tracks recorded solely by him, on his laptop.  

Hall talks about the history of these songs and why he chose to share them with the world at this time. “Unpack Your Memories  is a collection of songs that have been in my “vault” for a long time now,” Hall says. “Some just didn’t make the other albums and some were just too intimate to share at the time. Now they are ready to breathe and be shared with others. The name of the album says everything … These are all songs that have become memories for me. I am reaching into my bag and unpacking them - unpacking their meaning, the memory of where I was when I wrote them, and the feelings that they brought me so many years ago. As the saying goes, ‘You never meet the same river twice.’ Every time I hear these songs, they teach me something new or offer me the gift of a new perspective.  There are many other songs that are still in my vault, but I felt these were the most important to share at this time. The songs all came up together like the roots of a tree, and have taken form in the EP.”

Here's the third lyric video from IN THESE BOXES.  ROSEWOOD CASKET is a murder ballad, and so much more of a full narrative than the other songs.  

"People disappear because their lives can't become stories. We tell the stories of heroes, but most people aren’t heroes. Their stories get stopped before they can happen. And that means only the unfinished stories tell us who we really are.

My father’s people are from Flemingsburg, farm country just outside of Appalachia. Appalachia was mostly settled by people from the border country between Scotland and England. When England and Scotland warred, they mostly just attacked the Border people. And this turned them strange – distrustful, paranoid, angry. And they took that anger with them when they settled Appalachia.  

But on the other side of anger is guilt. You must have done something to make God hate you so much.

In 1888 – the year my grandmother was born – Johnny meant to leave Appalachia, to start his life, and then didn’t. The reason was in this hunting knife."

I'm so excited, and, no, I'm not going to hide it...so there! This ayem while checking out the news, entertainment and otherwise I found this awesome item via Vulture online:

"The news has been rumored for a while, but now it's confirmed: Judd Apatow's long-gestating Pee-wee Herman movie is headed to Netflix, the streaming giant announced today. Pee-wee's Big Holiday will tell the story of how "a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday." It's being produced by Judd Apatow and Paul Reubens, written by Reubens and Paul Rust and directed by first-timer John Lee (Broad City). "Bowtie is the new black," said "Pee-wee" in a statement. He's on-brand already!"

Oh Hell to the yes! Pee Wees Big Adventure is one of my favorite films, I remember seeing it my freshman year of college. It was directed by first time and then unknown Tim Burton and it was pure genius! 

Years later I sat next to him opening night of my friend E.G. Daily's one woman show Listen Closely, remember her as his girlfriend Dottie in his big adventure? That was so cool! 

The pairing of he and Judd Apatow is genius....I'm pulling for you Pee Wee!

It's been over forty years since KC and The Sunshine Band danced onto the music scene, transforming the landscape of pop music, and creating a signature sound spanning generations young and old. With sales of over 100 million records, nine Grammy nominations, three Grammy Awards and an American Music Award, they are still known today as one of the most progressive bands of the 70s; and in the midst of a millennial, digital age, their music is still discovered daily by millions around the world through its continual placement in top box office movies, TV commercials, TV shows and video games. This month, the band celebrates international recognition with 1984 hit "Give It Up," licensed for use in one of the leading scenes in blockbuster action movie, KINGSMAN: The Secret Service -- marking over 200 on-screen musical appearances for KC and The Sunshine Band. Whether the scene is fun and light-hearted or violent like in KINGSMAN, (where "Give It Up" plays as the villain acts out his infernal plan), and new Australian indie film, Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, (where "Get Down Tonight" is the anthem of choice as the lead character, a mad scientist, goes to town on terrified, live "cadavers" in his lab), KC and The Sunshine Band seems to have created an R&B, funk and disco infused soundtrack for pretty much every type of scene imaginable, whether its scored by music supervisors out of irony, or logic. "It makes me happy to know that my music has withstood the test of time," said Harry Wayne "KC" Casey. "Disco and funk have never really gone away. Look at Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' current No. 1 Billboard smash, "Uptown Funk." That song takes it back to the sound of my day. I'm glad to see my musical style being preserved not only on-screen but in current radio hits too." Over the past forty years, the list of films and commercials KC's music has been summoned for is seemingly endless. In the early 70s, at the height of the KC and The Sunshine Band phenomenon, they made their on-screen debut with "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty," in Top of the Pops and The Brady Bunch Hour, before "That's The Way I Like It," made its way into a comedic skit inSaturday Night Live. Then, in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, viewers and KC were reacquainted once again in Deuce Bigalow, Blow, Legally Blonde, Austin Powers, Saving Silverman, Rush Hour, The Simpsons, Dr. Dolittle, Forrest Gump, The Players Club, Space Jam, Picture Perfect and She's So Lovely, to name a few. More recently, in 2010, Sun Life Financial enlisted KC and his band as actors in its TV ad, humorously commissioning the band to change their name to the "SunLife Band," and their Saturday Night Fever hit, "Boogie Shoes," made its resurgence in 2014 in a Raisin Bran commercial. Other modern-day hit series like Scandal, The Big Bang Theory, Dancing With The Stars, Lovelace, Three Many Weddings, and the East Enders have all featured KC's music within the past two years. Furthermore, this March, Director Mark Moormann and Beacon Films, LLC will bring the music and career legacy of KC and The Sunshine Band to the Miami International Film Festival in the feature-length documentary, THE RECORD MAN, capturing the life of KC's long-time producer and record executive Henry Stone. Though so much history is written, KC and his band are not ready to call it quits. Their long-awaited new album Feeling You! The 60s, will impact stores, iTunes and Amazon on Tuesday, March 10. A tribute to the era that shaped H.W. Lena Dunham Goes Full "Scandal"

"Basically, my life's great passion is the idea of being a guest-star on Scandal,"  Lena Dunham creator and star of HBO's Girls recently confessed during an interview with Grantland's B.S.Report. "I want to be like, a senator who did something wrong."

Well Lena the Casting Fairy has granted your wish and you will be appearing on the drama this March.

No real details have been divulged, but I bet she is somehow connected with Olivia Pope & Associates, since everyone else in the world is a mere few degrees of separation from the agency headed by Kerry Washington as the "Pope" of Washington D.C. 

Dunham reportedly wants to play an "evil character" - I hope so that would be juicy!
