Get "Snatched" Wednesday

Getting In "Formation"
Amy Schumer & Goldie Hawn
While I was a little taken back by Goldie Hawn's appearance on the Golden Globe's this past weekend, and to clarify by "appearance" I don't mean the fact that she was on the show. I know why she was on with one Ms. Amy Schumer, they have a movie coming out May 12th called Snatched and I can't wait!

Both women are brilliant on screen comedians and even if the movie falls short of their talents I am willing to bet their chemistry and considerable skills will make it worth the watch.

This is one of those rare dream teams that hit the silver screen that compels you to buy a ticket just to see them werk!

As you may or may not recall the two first teamed up for a brilliant parody of Beyonce's song Formation.

Check out the funny as fuck trailer below and watch your ass!

"Vanity" Thy Name Is Woman

Beautiful
Vanity

Denise Matthews best known as Vanity has passed away at 57. While most people know her as the Prince protege who fronted the grrrrrrrl group Vanity 6, I most fondly remember her as a charismatic presence on the silver screen.

"Yes" I would see movies because Vanity was in them. Why else would I have checked out The Last Dragon & Action Jackson?! 52 Pick-Up had other reasons to see it, but Vanity was still one of them.

It's a shame that she had moved on from Prince before Purple Rain as she was the intended star of it. Instead we got stuck with Apollonia. While PR is a good film, I am sure Vanity would have made it much better.

While the cause of her death has yet to be revealed suffice it to say Denise was not of good health in her latter years.

The nice thing about stars when they pass away is while their physical energy will be missed, their spirit lives on through the work they left behind.

I will be checking out 52 Pick-Up again this weekend.

Submit! Kim Basinger

I'm Going To Bridle You In And Make You Submit!
Kim Basinger

It has been a while since we have seen Kim Basinger in a high profile film project. Quite frankly I have missed seeing this ageless beauty who still turns heads at 62 on the silver screen.

When the casting people for Fifty Shades Darker, the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey (duh!) were looking to cast "a beautiful older blonde who oozes sex appeal and seduction" as Christian Grey's business partner and former love interest who introduced him to the world of S&M, well who are you gonna call? Kim Basinger!

Translation for all you Fifty Shades fanatics, Kim is playing Elena Lincoln.

Destiny I say. After all Kim played a submissive art dealer in the S&M themed 9 1/2 Weeks to Mickey Rourke's dominant.

Well now she gets to have the upper hand in Fifty Shades Darker.

Take us to your dungeon Mistress Kim

WTF?! Nicole Kidman In A Lifetime Movie?!

Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly
OK, I had heard Grace of Monaco, starring one of my favorite actresses, Nicole Kidman was not all that good. This latest news on the indefinitely delayed film which was supposed to premiere in theaters in November of 2013. Well to put it mildly it is by passing the silver screen all together now and premiering on Lifetime May 25th, WTF!?

Nothing says bad like a Lifetime movie, and this must be some sort of awful since it costs $30 Million to make, the highest budgeted TV movie of the week ever.

Kidman, however, has defended the film, saying that it is not meant to be a biopic or documentary, but is just a "small part of  Grace Kelly's life when she reveals her great humanity as her fears and weaknesses."

Well at the very least, unlike a lot of acting in Lifetime movies, I am sure Kidman will deliver a great performance.

Hitch A Ride With Marilyn Monroe

The Traveling Marilyn Monroe Statue
Photo: Michael Shinafelt
As anyone who knows me knows, I am a big Marilyn Monroe fan, which should come as no major surprise to those of you who may have just found out this information.

Here is a piece I did on this blog when My Week With Marilyn came out:

http://mshinafelt.blogspot.com/2012/01/reel-life-my-week-with-marilyn.html

So in honor of that I am posting some rare photos of one of my favorite actresses that are part of a traveling pop up exhibit. Also included at the top of this article is the photo I took of the traveling MM statue in Palm Springs, CA when I was there this past February, hey I may not have gotten to shoot the real thing but it was good enough for this fan.

Marilyn frequently let crew members  photograph her on set when the cameras weren't rolling, to calm her nerves.
Here, is a sneak peek at the lost photos of Marilyn Monroe, being showcased this month in a traveling exhibition curated by Pierre Vudrag.

R.I.P: Karen Black

Karen Black was one of my favorite and Best Actresses that ever graced the silver screen.

She starred in many high profile films: "Easy Rider", "Airport 75", "Nashville", "Alfred Hitchcock's Family Plot" & one of the best horror movies ever "Trilogy of Terror" - "Yes" I am a horror fan!

However my personal favorite film Ms. Black was in was John Schlesinger's ode to Hollywood reality and it's desperate losers.

"The Day of the Locust" is anything but a cheerful, light look at Hollywood in the '30s. It recreates both the town as well as the filmmaking world around which much of the town revolved with devastating accuracy. The movie tells the twin tales of talentless wannabe actress Faye Greener (Karen Black) and Homer Simpson (Donald Sutherland), a lovelorn accountant who couldn't care less about movies. Around this framework, a huge and intricate social network is tellingly revealed, until the film'sgruesome and tragic ending. Not for those who prefer to hang onto their illusions about the glory days of Hollywood, "The Day of the Locust", is based on the novel by Nathanael West"

Karen Black was great in all of her films, this movie however to me was the best performance of her career, it was that rare moment where every element of a project gels and is total perfection, I have seen "The Day of the Locust" five times and love it every single viewing.

Ms. Black passed away today from pancreatic cancer, so sad she had to die in such an awful manner.

R.I.P. Sweet lady, you had an amazing life and career, thanks for the memories.
