Holiday Eating Tips With Dr. Nina

Dr. Nina Says
OK, as we are in the grip of "The Holiday Season" aka "The Eating Season" I though it would be a great idea to call in our favorite expert on eating disorders at "Entertain Me" Dr. Nina Savelle-Rocklin to offer tips to us about how to keep it in check.

Dr. Nina is awesome as she does not recommend dieting, I mean really dieting never works, she digs until she finds the root of the overeating and works with it from there. So here with a few tips to help you through the rest of "The Eating Season" is Dr. Nina!

Here are some tips and strategies for how to make it through the Holiday Season without losing control:

I suggest that trigger foods may be correlated with specific emotions.  She says, “If you are drawn to pumpkin pie and sweets, maybe you need more comfort and sweetness in your life.”

Dr. Nina also helps normalize real family dynamics during the holidays.  She asks listeners, “Does it seem as if everyone else is living in a Hallmark commercial, full of peace, love and happiness - and your family is more like a reality show?”

Check out her Holiday podcast below:

http://winthedietwarpodcast.com/

As Dr. Nina says, “If you struggle with food, weight and body image, the holidays can be difficult.  But with a little help, you can survive them without losing control, or losing your mind!”

It's "The Dr. Nina Show"

Dr. Nina is on a mission to help you "Win The Diet War" with her practice, podcast and her award winning blog.
Just when you thought there was nothing else the amazing Dr. Nina could pull out of her hat along comes her bi-weekly broadcast on YouTube - "The Dr. Nina Show"!
Dr. Nina's advice is very sound and logical and she offers very simple tips on re-thinking how you relate to yourself in terms of food. That's right people, it's not about the food, it's about the importance and power you put on it in your life.
Let's check in with Dr. N and see what she has to say about all this jazz:
"If people are struggling with overeating or binge eating, I tell them that whatever is going on with food is a "symptom" of the problem, not the actual problem (although it feels like "the" problem). Overeating is a "frenemy" - it helps you cope with painful or upsetting things, but it also hurts you.
It's important to address the underlying reasons you turn to food in the first place. When you can identify and work through those core reasons, and when you can use words for comfort and/support, you won't need food to cope".
Oh Dr. Nina knows of what she speaks having had my own set of circumstances that have taught me to look at things in a whole new way. This reprogramming of ones self is key to everything in life, not just food. Try it, you will be surprised at how much better your quality of being is, and if food is your issue, watch it's hold on you diminish with the most awesome show I have ever heard on the subject.

Clea Cutthroat Says "Put A Diaper On It" !

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall....
Burlesque Biotch and "Entertain Me" favorite, Clea Cutthroat is everywhere, performing with the Rock/Art Band Bonaparte, Writing her online column "Cocktails With Clea" for appropriately enough Burlesque Bitch Magazine to tantalizing people on stage in her own shows, Clea is: Up In Your Grill!
There is something that perhaps you did not know about Ms. Cutthroat she is also a charitable diva.
Recently she took place in a YouTube campaign to supply diapers to The Sage Hospital in Senegal...let's get an update about all that and more, time to "Put A Diaper On It" Clea!
MS: How did you get involved with the bringing diapers to the Sage Hospital in Senegal?
CC: The SAGE taxi actually just picked me up off the street late one night. I had a fight with a magician, stole his dove....and was trudging along a dark road with my suitcase, body guard and bird cage, when the taxi pulled up. They asked me if I wanted a ride, and then they asked me if I would do something good for there hospital in Senegal. It was a very easy, YES!
It's such a great cause, and if literally 20 minutes of my day can help bring something positive to the children and families there, it is truly an honor. I am so flattered that they asked me.
MS: How did the task go?
CC: GREAT! I don't have the final count yet of the number of diapers that will be donated, but needless to say we got A LOT!
MS: I'm jealous, I want a disco alarm clock! Where did you ever find such a groovy item?
CC: Believe it or not, I actually gifted it to someone, and they gave it back to me. (crazy, I know). One man's trash....is another diva's disco ball extrvaganza!!!!
Clea's Charity Video
MS:Did you stuff your bra with pampers in high school too?
CC: I was actually more a roll-your-skirt-up-to-your-crotch kinda gal Catholic all girls school...I was nothing but class lol!
MS: Since you always ask yourself "What would Madonna do"? If she were aware of your Diapers for Senegal campaign do you think she would buy them for Sage Hospital or her boyfriend first?
CC: Michael...don't make fun of Madge! Her boyfriends are perfect baby angels that have six-packs and brooding eyebrows instead of angel wings. Aaaaaaaaand, I think that Queen M would be the first one showing up with trucks full of diapers...but they would probably have "Truth or Dare" written across the back!
MS: Enough of the "Diaper Talk" what else have you been up to chica?
CC: I have just gotten back from festival season with Bonaparte...we had a crazy ass show at the Kazantip Republic in the Ukraine. I don't even know how to describe that one- Bladerunner meets Showgirls meets Wild Things?! It was amazing!
I'm currently getting ready to launch Black Boulevard! My lingerie label I do together with Fraulein Kink. It will be up and online in about a month. It's been my baby for over a year, so I wasn't launching a damn thing until it is completely perfect ....and it just about is! I am REALLY excited!
I also will be performing at the 1st International Berlin Burlesque Festival in September, and also in Rome for the Caput Mundi International Burlesque Award in November. I caaaan't wait! Gladiators here I come!
Perhaps Platinum....
MS: I'm bummed you are not making the trek from Berlin to Los Angeles next month.
CC: ME TOO!!! Unfortunately, it was just a matter of timing...too many tours going all in opposite directions from Los Angeles. But, I gotta make it back there so soon! I'm California dreaming already! Pass me the suntan lotion and a fish taco immediately!
MS: Yeah, I was looking forward to having margaritas and spitting blood on people with you.
CC: Awww, that would be amazing!!!!! Well, I got a pint of fake artery blood with your name on it! I also have some neon, glow in the dark, margarita salt..so we can get real fancy!
MS: Awesome! Tell me what your ultimate kitsch dream item to own would be and if it needs batteries.
CC: I'm sorry, but the only thing that I got from that question was "batteries" and all I can think of is a vibrator.
Vibrator. Vibraaator...Viiiiiiiiibrator!
OH! WAIT! I got something! A GIANT light up deco-aquarium! I LOVE THOSE THINGS!!!
MS:Any last words before we part?
CC: Use a condom!

Margaret Cho Is On The Loose

Margaret Cho is on the loose! Where shall we begin? Season five of "Drop Dead Diva" on Lifetime seems like a good starting point, follow that up with new tour dates for her acclaimed comedy show "Mother".

Not to mention her three women fresh out of jail YouTube series "In Transition" and she's baaaaaack co-hosting "The View" Thursday July 25th and Friday July 26th, hoping to take over one of the vacant seats.

There are so many other things I could say, instead of reading my shopping list let's let Margaret tell us herself.

MS: "Drop Dead Diva" is back! Did you think that would happen since Lifetime initially cancelled it?

MC: You never really know with TV. You never know how things are going to go, that's the nature of it. What's really great is the fans really love "Drop Dead Diva" and they wanted to see more.

MS: It's a cute show, I've seen it a couple of times. It puts a smile on your face when you're in a bad mood.

MC: I like that.

MS: Sandra Bernhard is a guest this season.

MC: She's amazing, I'm such a fan of hers. We talked about what a sexist Jerry Lewis is when it comes to women in comedy, it's disturbing. I was talking to her about how amazing she was in "The King of Comedy".

MS: Oh she's so good in that!

MC: Sooooo good! It's legendary, a great movie! I think it's Martin Scorsese at his best. With Sandra as a mad stalker...she is so hilarious and so sexy.

MS: She scared the Hell out of me in that!

MC: I love her when she's scary, that's when she's at her best. She's just fabulous in every way, as a comedian, actress and a musician. She is someone I admire tremendously so it was great to have her as part of our show.

                                               Margaret's YouTube Series "In Transition"

MS: By the way "Mistress Lina" I was on season 2 of "Where The Bears Are" and so were you!

MC: Oh that's great! I haven't seen it yet, what part did you play?

MS: I got some good face time in the Faultline Bar scene.

MC: Oh My God I have to watch it. I'm saving it up to watch it all at once, I hate to watch one episode and not be able to see the next one, I have to see it all at once.

MS: Well I was caught of guard by your role as "Mistress Lina" when you pulled the demure Asian Woman thing and when the Bears fell for it you called them racist. (laughs)

MC: I know, it was fun!

MS: Like, where did that come from?! Sorry I sound like Janis Joplin today, I got the rasps this morning.

MC: That's OK.

MS: So I saw you on "The View" was that fun?

MC: That is the job I want most of all. I am in the running to be a host.

MS: Oh wow, that's awesome!

MC: It's a great thing, it would be so cool, I would love it!

MS: Personally I wished Elisabeth Hasselbeck had been on the day you were I would have liked to see an exchange between the two of you. I don't think she's stupid, I think she doesn't articulate her opinions in a clear manner.

MC: She's great, they're all great for their own different points of view, ideas and jokes. It's a real rock-n-roll sort of thing, they all play their different instruments and I'd really love be a part of that band.

MS: How was doing "In Bed With Joan"?

MC: It was a blast! I love Joan Rivers, and I love going over to her house. It's so exciting, and she is so hysterical. I've know her for a long time, and I respect her and love her so dearly.

MS: Like I told a friend recently when you are 80 you want to be Joan Rivers, she has the stamina of a 20 year old and still has her wits about her.

MC: Totally! She is so cool and has such a strong work ethic. An unbelievable presence, such a cool lady.

MS: Since I know touring is your favorite thing, hit me with when you are doing it some more.

MC: At the end of August I will be playing some gigs in Georgia, Athens & Atlanta - I will also be touring all over Europe.

Pentatonix Catch A Tornado To The Land Of Ahhhs...!

They're "Wide Awake"
That's right, the PTX gang join YouTube sensation Todrick Hall and hitch a ride on a tornado and land in Ahhhs! Not to be confused with the land of Oz, but it certainly is Emerald City adjacent.

Pentatonix journey opens with the sole female group member Kirstie Maldonado as "Dorothy" crooning "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" and then along comes a twister....Hey, the story has not changed, but the way in which it is told is unique and fun!

Kirstie, is front row and center for the bulk of the re-telling of a young girls journey of self. Not only does she play "Dorothy" but being the only female, she also plays "Glinda" and "The Wicked Witch of the West" -  You go Kirstie!

The concept is the brainchild of Todrick Hall (with I am sure input from PTX) - also pays homage to the classic movie, "The Wizard of Oz" and utilizes images of the late great Judy Garland over the final number of the voyage.

So which of the Pentatonix Guys plays "The Scarecrow", "The Tin Woodsman", "The Cowardly Lion" & "Toto" too?

Catch a tornado to Ahhhs and find out!

What Do May Flowers Bring? Pentatonix

PENTATONIX GOES VIRAL…AGAIN
“EVOLUTION OF MUSIC” REACHES 7 MILLION YOUTUBE VIEWS
IN ITS FIRST WEEK
COVER OF IMAGINE DRAGONS’ “RADIOACTIVE”
(WITH LINDSEY STIRLING) SOARS TO 12 MILLION YOUTUBE VIEWS & DEBUTS IN ITUNES’ TOP 100
YOUTUBE CHANNEL SURPASSES 70 MILLION VIEWS WITH OVER 800 THOUSAND SUBSCRIBERS
2013 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR CONTINUES THROUGH MAY

Vocal sensations and winners of season 3 of NBC’s “The Sing-Off,” Pentatonix have had a whirlwind week with their latest YouTube video – “Evolution Of Music” – garnering nearly 7 million in the 6 days since its debut.  The video spans 1000 years of music in just 4 minutes, featuring some of the most popular songs from the last dozen centuries, and has been featured by The Huffington Post, Ryan Seacrest, Mashable and even got some radio love from New York City’s Z100.

Additionally, “Oh Holy Night,” the Christmas classic and standout track from PTX’s 2012 Christmas EP, was featured on last week’s episode of NBC’s Community.

Pentatonix also recently teamed up with dubstep violinist Lindsey Stirling on a cover of Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive.”  The video has a combined 12 million cumulative YouTube views and the single, now available via iTunes, debuted in its top 100.
PTX & Lindsey Stirling

This follows the success of the group’s previous offerings, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop” which surpassed the six million-view mark, an *NSYNC medley and a Swedish House Mafia mash-up.  All of the arrangements are performed on the group’s current tour, which continues through May.

On top of their live performance  and YouTube release schedules, Pentatonix are also arranging and recording PTX Vol 2,  planned for an early Summer release.

After winning the most recent season of NBC’s “The Sing Off,” Pentatonix enjoyed a whirlwind of success in 2012.

They released 2 EP’s – PTX Vol 1 & PTXmas – twice debuting on Billboard’s Top 200 and selling a combined 100,000 albums and counting.  Their television appearances included The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno, The Katie Couric Show, The Talk, The American Music Awards Red Carpet Show and VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live!  They have been regularly featured by RyanSeacrest.com and Perez Hilton.  The Philadelphia Inquirer reviewed their fall tour and said:

No strictly vocal act sounds more ecstatic in triumph than Pentatonix… Euphoric best describes the joyful, self-described “futuristic a cappella” quintet who played before a wildly enthusiastic Philly audience.

Pentatonix are taking instrument-free music far beyond anyone’s wildest expectations.  Named after the world’s most widely recognized five-note musical scale, this vocal quintet has transformed one of pop music’s purest and most soulful expressions into an exciting future, filled with limitless sonic possibility.  Pairing their intricate arrangements with cleverly re-imagined pop songs, Pentatonix have quickly cultivated a sound and style that is entirely unique and undeniably infectious.

Just a year old, the Pentatonix YouTube channel boasts over 70 million views, buoyed by more than 800,000 subscribers.  The group also has more than 290,000 Facebook fans and nearly 85,000 twitter followers.

"Shake Your Booty" KC and the Sunshine Band

It's KC...!
KC & the Sunshine Band has earned lifetime worldwide album sales well past the 100 million mark and secured #1 hit smashes with “That’s the Way (I Like It),” “Get Down Tonight,” and “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty” as well as numerous signature songs like “I’m Your Boogie Man,” “Boogie Shoes,” “Keep It Comin’ Love,” “Please Don’t Go” and more...

The band is celebrating 40 years by going on tour both across the country and internationally. Oh and they have some new music out, hit it KC!

MS: Hey KC, it's funny I was watching one of my favorite shows last night, "Scandal" and you had a song on there last night.

KC: What song?

MS: "Get Down Tonight" I thought well isn't that ironic, I am speaking with him tomorrow.

KC: A little haunting there, wasn't it? (laughs)

MS: You've had a 40 year career which is pretty amazing!

KC: That is pretty killer! The fact that I'm still alive, too!

MS: Part of that has to do with your knowledge of how the music business works, you started out doing a internship in the biz.

KC: I surrounded myself with something I loved. When I worked in record distribution I was able to know exactly what was coming out on the radio before it was even promoted.

MS: Well it worked in your favor, your videos on YouTube have millions of hits.

KC: That's pretty crazy, right?

MS: I had an album with some of your music on it when I was growing up.

KC: Oh, was that one of those K-Tel compilations?

MS: Yes! It was K-Tel.

KC: There's a company called Now 100 that does the same thing currently.

MS: I've never heard of them, but my knowledge of current music is limited. I lean more towards alternative music.

KC: My musical taste is R & B, unfortunately I think music froze my taste for me on that. It seems like it's coming back around, but I don't think it will ever be like those great R & B records from the 60's & 70's, ya know.

MS: Ike & Tina Turner were my favorites from that era, their stuff was amazing!

KC: They were incredible. I grew up with all the Mowtown stuff, Atlantic Records, you know, with The Drifters and Aretha Franklin....God all that great music.

MS: Let's address what being in the music business for 40 years has been like for you, what kind of a ride has it been?
Get Down Tonight

KC: Well, you know, it has been exciting! There have been some ups and downs, some of them were calculated, well all of it has been I made all or the decisions and did what I wanted to do. In the beginning it was very lonely for me and also very exciting. I was very saddened to find out how political the business was, I knew that going in, but I did not realize it was as political to the extreme that it is. It was disheartening and kind of took the bang out of the whole thing...that was the 70's.

In the 80's after my last hit with "Give It Up" I kind of retired and partied up until '93 - '95, until I went into drug rehab. During that part of my career I didn't want to have a career, I didn't want to be told what to do anymore...how to do it, when to smile, when not to smile, when to be happy, when not to be happy, I didn't want to have to worry about making a record or dealing with lawyers and agents, managers or anything. I just shut down and partied, I wanted to get back to the reality of life, which was who I was, all that sort of thing.

Then in the 90's Arenio Hall wanted to see a reunion of the band. I did a reunion show and realized: "Wow, dude this is what you really love to do". So I started booking shows and started doing it again, but in '93 I was still on the drug thing, I had to make a choice do I go back to my career or keep partying? I chose my career.

I've been performing again for the last ten years doing all these shows and stuff. It's taken me thirty to forty years of the last ten years to realize "I'm KC of KC and the Sunshine Band" number one, number two to understand everything that happened to me and be comfortable with it. Most importantly to go with the flow more and stop fighting everything.

MS: Oh, I get that.

KC: Understanding being KC and having my life outside of that.

MS: The down time can be weird, you kind of feel like you should be on all the time.

KC: Right!

MS: Let's talk about your song "I Can't Get You Out of My Mind".

KC: My manager suggested I get in touch with Bimbo Jones - their DJ's in Europe, who've done remixes for Madonna, Lady Gaga...you name it. I met with them, they sent me this track and nothing clicked. So I went on tour and then went on Holiday, so a year later I contacted them about working on the track, I was procrastinating, I don't really know why I was doing that. So I put that track on and listened to it, and all of the sudden, boom! The melody was there, the word were there, the title was there! Everything just started happening like crazy, insane I had no control over it, I went in the studio and did the vocal, pretty much within an hour.

Right now we are getting a lot of remixes of the song, from the song an album has started happening as well, that has evolved into two albums now. (laughs)

MS: The one thing I found interesting about revisiting your music that I did not notice growing up was, how much of an actual R&B artist you are. All I heard then was disco.

KC: I just did what was natural to me.

Checking In With: Grace V. "Don't Wanna Be Waiting"

Grace V.
I first encountered Grace V. (the V. stands for Valerie) via an interview request from Project Publicity for the music site I write for, Chorus and Verse.

Every person I interview is uncharted territory until you have been there. Grace V. turned out to be a delightful intelligent woman who, in my book loves to do the most important thing in life, laugh...!

Here is the link to my full length interview with her for her first hit single "When The Lights Go Down" where she looked like a cute spandex mummy in the video.

Grace has been very busy since and has a new single and video out, now, called "Don't Wanna Be Waiting" let's "Check In" with the effervescent Grace Valerie!

MS: Hello gorgeous what have you been up to of late?

GV: "I've been very busy lately promoting my new single "Don't Wanna Be Waiting". It is also produced by the one and only Randy Jackson! I just got back from NYC where I did a lot of press and radio appearances. I also had an amazing show in Connecticut at Sin City in Jan. I am gonna have few shows in LA in Feb-March".
MS: Initiate the unfamiliar with your music please.
GV: "I think my music is sensual, dancy, fun, very pure. I only sing what is dear to my heart; you want to drive your car and sing along with my songs very very LOUD. It is just awesome! I am very passionate about my craft. And I love to enjoy my life to the fullest"
MS: Chat about your music video.
GV: "My music video is exclusively released today on MTV logo. Tomorrow we are gonna upload it to my YouTube channel and I hope we can beat my "When The Lights Go Down" record!
MS: Do you have a motto? Most artist have a motto, tell us yours.
GV: "I recently found a great quote in The Bible: "For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under Heaven. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance." That's my MOTTO"
