DOLLY PARTON SIGNS DEVELOPMENT DEAL WITH NBC 

Network to Develop Slate of Two-Hour Movies With Legendary Country Icon as Producer
 

Like, who out there does not love Dolly Parton?! Given this news perhaps a live broadcast of the musical "Hello Dolly" should be on the fast track!  NBC has signed a development deal with Dolly Parton, one of the most honored female country musicians of all time and an American icon. "I am so excited to be involved with my friend Bob Greenblatt, who produced the Broadway version of '9 to 5: The Musical' with me, and my longtime friend and former agent Sam Haskell. We want to create projects for NBC that are both fun and inspirational with a family audience in mind," said Dolly Parton. In conjunction with production partner Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television, NBC will develop a slate of two-hour TV movies based on the songs, stories, and inspiring life of Dolly Parton. This extraordinarily prolific country music artist and movie star will produce these projects that are meant to appeal to an inclusive family audience. "I don't know anyone in the world who doesn't love Dolly Parton, and the idea of developing television movies inspired by her incredible life and the stories she has sung about for decades is exciting to all of us at NBC," said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment." Miley Cyrus Bangz NBC This Sunday

I Am Miley Cyrus! Hear Me Roar! 

It's the 4th of July this weekend and this Sunday at 9 pm on NBC, prepare to get your Bangerz on with Miley Cyrus.

Yes, you heard me correctly, the one and only Miley will help you celebrate this Holiday weekend with a Bangerz, her Bangerz Tour that is.

For two hours it will be Miley's world and you will just be living in it.

Two hours of Miley, coming on like a wrecking ball and twerking her ass from Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona to MEO Arena in Lisbon.

Whatever your take on Ms. Cyrus, I for one think she has a great voice and is on Hell of a performer, the special should be anything but boring and I'm willing to wager thoroughly entertaining.

Ellen Degeneres Goes Lesbian For NBC

Sixteen years after Ellen Degeneres came out on Ellen another network comedy with a lesbian lead is coming to primetime. 

NBC has given a pilot order to a multi-camera comedy executive produced by DeGeneres. 

The project, titled One Big Happy, is written/exec produced by openly gay comedy scribe Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls). 

In it, a gay (woman) and straight (man) best friends decide to have a baby together, but things get complicated when the man finds the love of their life. 

Um, I was going to say "Holy Will & Grace" but this sounds a whole lot more interesting and progressive. 

Elisha Cuthbert from the classic show 24 and the awful remake of House of Wax (sorry Elisha I like you but, damn, really?!) is set to star in the pilot.

Doin' My Thang

2013 is over and I could not be any happier! 2014 is going to be an amazing year - full of opportunity, prosperity and of course "Entertain Me."

My 2014 calendar is off to a great start. Hitting a preview of the play "Take Me Out" at The Complex in Hollywood, CA Thursday night.

And on Friday the 3rd checking out James Durbin on his acoustic tour at The Viper Room in Los Angeles, CA - photo coverage, by me, will be posted here on "Entertain Me."

2014 looks to be the year of so many things to do and not enough time to do them in, here's wishing all of you the same and that you will rise to the challenge!

Happy First Day of 2014! I leave you with one of my favorite performances of this past year, Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera singing "Do What U Want" on The Voice.

She's "Just Frenchie"

Frenchie Davis, the name brings many things to mind, after stealing the national spotlight on the first season of NBC’s “The Voice” as a Top Four Finalist, as well as season two of “American Idol” her single “Love’s Got a Hold On Me” is currently a Billboard Dance Hit Smash.

She is currently working on her debut LP “Just Frenchie” a collection of original material written specifically for her. Having conquered Broadway as a cast member of “Rent” and the Grammy nominated revival of “Ain’t Misbehavin” Ms. Davis has it going on.

With a Christmas single due to drop and her recent “coming out” Frenchie is a force of nature, not to mention a vocal powerhouse to be reckoned with.

Frenchie truly desires only one thing: “I want to live my life to inspire people to be brave and courageous, to believe in themselves and never take no for an answer.”

MS: I was playing “Love's Got a Hold On Me” right before you called, when I was listening to it, not that you sound like her, but you remind me a lot of Donna Summer.

FD: Oh my gosh, that's a huge compliment, I love her!

MS: The reason for the comparison is Donna was the only Disco I could stand as vocals were the focus, not just the music and the beat.


FD: Exactly! That's what I've been wanting to do with my upcoming album and this single. Bring good strong vocals back to dance music. I grew up listening to dance music, people like Jocelyn Brown and Martha Wash, so the dance music I grew up with featured singers with big voices.

MS: Not to get too personal, but you sort of kind of, pseudo came out recently.


FD: It wasn't something that I planned on doing, because far as I was concerned everyone who needed to know, knew about my sexuality. My friends, my family, my loved ones, the person I am sleeping with. At the end of the day those are the only people whose business it is really. It's interesting when someone uses the phrase coming out when in actuality I had already been out. I do recognize the significant difference between being open and honest with your loved ones and allowing media scrutiny into your personal life. So, did I allow the media into my personal life? “Yes” I was doing a media interview and I answered a question honestly and that answer ended up being a headline: “Frenchie Davis Comes Out”.

MS: Yeah, I read about it on The Huffington Post just before you called, I think it being out there helps other people.


FD: It was important to just be honest and not give ambiguous answers in interviews to me. I like to tell it like it is.


MS: You still consider yourself bi-sexual and I know there is a lot of animosity towards that in the Gay Community.


FD: One of the things that made it so important to me to be who I am, is not only to combat Homophobia in the straight community, but to also help combat Bi phobia in the Gay Community. I have the same take on Homophobia in the Black Community that I do on Bi phobia in the Gay Community, I think it's apalling that a group of people that know what it's like to be discriminated against can justify bigotry towards another group of people. I get certain groups of people may not understand it, but unless you are screwing me, you don't need to fucking understand it.


MS: So, you really didn't come out, you got real.


FD: Exactly!


MS: Hows your album “Just Frenchie” coming along?

FD: Yes, I am “Just Frenchie” (laughs) I decided to name it that because I have been on all these reality shows and people are familiar with my voice, but they are hearing me sing other people's songs. This will be the first time I am singing songs that haven't been sung by anybody else, they are just me. It's going to be mostly dance music I definitely will throw on a few power ballads, but knowing me, there will probably be numerous dance mixes for those power ballads. It's exciting to be able to merge my love of soulful singing with my love of dance music.


MS: You are also releasing a Christmas single really soon.


FD: I want the single to be perfect, I meet people all the time that say” “My Mother loves you” we watched you on “The Voice”. So I am doing this for all the Mom's out there that love me.

Margaret Cho is "Like A Virgin" nominated for the very first time, for an Emmy that is on NBC's "30 Rock" for her dead on comedic portrayal as North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Il..... a favorite and friend to the blog here at "Entertain Me" it's about time Cho was nominated for her skills as a comedic actress and not just a comedian. Ms. Cho called in with this comment on her nomination....

Pentatonix, the season 3 winners of the NBC a cappella singing competition series, "The Sing Off", have  released their debut EP, “PTX Volume 1”.  Described by Rollingstone.com to be “impossibly full sound,” the five-member band, named for the world’s most widely recognized five-note musical scale, is comprised of lead vocalists Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying and Kirstie Maldonado with vocal bass by Avi Kaplan and beatboxer Kevin Olusola, each who arrange all their own music using only their vocals as instruments.

Well let's beat box it with and get down in the PTX with Scott Hoying and Avi Kaplan, word!

MS: You guys are amazing! What inspired you to use your voices as instruments?

PTX: We were all in choir and we all love vocal music, it's organic, it comes from yourself, it's such an amazing feeling to perform it for other people. Kevin loves all types of music he came up with the beat boxing and it worked out perfectly.

MS: Most people never think to use their voices for anything other than singing.

PTX: Yeah, totally.

MS: I really love your guys mash-up of Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me" and Katy Perry's "Wide Awake".

PTX: We all listened to both songs and thought about which parts we really loved out of each song. Then we just put it together, and made sure all of the words worked with the melody. We really liked the feel of the Justin Bieber song so we kept the words, and we loved the chorus for the Katy Perry song, it was a very organic process.

MS: It's Amazing that you guys all found each other.

PTX: Yeah, it is really crazy that we all did find each other, it was obviously meant to be.

MS: When it happens organically it is meant, there's no way in your wildest dreams...

PTX: It's so crazy.

MS: You guys were on "The Sing Off" and that's where you met, I am assuming that was a good springboard for you.

PTX: Just to have millions of people watching you every week, the thing that was great about the show is it really was real, it represented you in the way you really are.
