Current Mood

The Glam Team
David Bowie & Catherine Deneuve

Well Hello Monday...we have arrived at yet another day in the continuing saga: What the Hell is going to happen today in 2020?

I don't know, but it sure isn't bound to be dull, or glamorous. Thus bringing me to my  Current Mood, I have been wanting something cool and glam in my life, which brought one of my favorite films to mind The Hunger. That was one cool/glam vampire movie, thus I decided to Google images from it.

This being stated, while this image is not from the film, it is of it's co-stars David Bowie & Catherine Deneuve. Nothing says cool or glamorous quite like the these two and this is them simply hanging out. Whether it was during filming or not is unclear, but this shot is great and fills my need for some escapism glam style at this moment, right here, right now.

Also, there were several other gems I came across, like some publicity shots I had never seen. However this one best sums my Current Mood up for this Monday.

Come with me and escape...

My Current Mood is reflected above via the song Tear You Apart by She Wants Revenge. She wants revenge? How sexist, doesn't everyone want revenge? Especially this particular time of year? Yeah, I thought so. Only 6 more days until Halloween!

I’m asking that friends and family join in in this movement by contributing so I can continue to be a messenger with my voice, my words, and with my heart. I’m hoping the song and its message goes global but I need your support to assist with this launch. The more amazing things that happen with So Pretty, the bigger the reach towards the message and importance of self love! I appreciate your generosity and support, if you can contribute today that would be amazing. No pressure, if anything else just share the link."

Michael's Musings

Horny For Halloween
Michael Shinafelt
This week is a special edition of my column. In case you haven't figured out that means my focus will be on Halloween this coming Monday, then I have no response to that.

Time to let loose the devil inside!

Did you know there is a line of Halloween costumes out based on the raunchy R-rated movie Sausage Party? You too can dress as a douche and offer yourself and your services up as a treat,

I am the terror that flaps in the night. That is all.

Heidi Klum always rocks the best costumes. Can't wait to see what she comes up with this year.

No tears please, it’s a waste of good suffering.” - Pinhead, Hellraiser

How about that clown scare this year?

Someone decided to make Hollywood Great again and smash Donald Trump's star on the Walk of Fame with a sledgehammer the day of Hillary Clinton's Birthday. What a nice Halloween treat, and Happy Birthday Madam President!

If I were a witch, I would cast spells, kill people and stuff...

"Nothing Human Loves Forever" - tag line for my favorite vampire film, The Hunger

Let's crack open a bottle of wine and Ouija.

My all time favorite horror film is John Carpenter's Halloween. Only scary movie that ever really got under my skin, and, well scared the fuck outta me!

This Halloween I plan on attending the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival. The amount of alcohol consumed there both scares and impresses me.

The Horror: The Hunger

Catherine Deneuve & David Bowie

When I was sixteen it was a very good year. I landed my first job as a teenager ever, and it was my teen dream job. What was it? Working in a movie theater of course!

It was also the year, what would become my favorite vampire film ever came out, The Hunger. Since I worked there I got to see it for free, and that I did, five times!

Visually and conceptually it was stunning with graphic sexuality and vampire blood letting. Catherine Deneuve was born to play the ultimate ice queen vamp, Miriam Blaylock. David Bowie was the perfect compliment are her rapidly deteriorating decades old lover John Blaylock. Then there's Susan Sarandon as Dr. Sarah Roberts who thinks death is a disease that can be cured, little does she know....

With it's bold bi-sexuality, exploration of life & death and perfectly cast actors, this is one vampire fest blood sucking freaks should not miss!

Only 6,6,6 more days until Halloween

She Wants Revenge

Beware Of  Ear Whispering
Lady Gaga
"As I whisper in your ear, I want to fucking tear you apart" - She Wants Revenge, Tear You Apart

I have a confession to make. When I was a kid I wanted to grow-up to be a vampire, no joke, for real. My Dad and myself used to watch horror movies during the weekend on TV. Dracula has always held a deep fascination with me. That interest of course extended to any other cool vampires that I took an inkling to.

Personally I am going out on sort of a limb here...not! That my intense interest in vamps stems from their powers being intertwined with sex and eroticism

My favorite vampire film of all time is the late Tony Scott's The Hunger. Following a close second is season five of the TV anthology American Horror Story: Hotel.

Lady Gaga was a kick ass mistress of the night and Matt Bomer as her paramour gave me a certain stirring in my groin.

Imagine my surprise when I came across a music video montage of Hotel done to one of my favorite songs ever Tear You Apart by She Wants Revenge.

While the song was featured during season five it was used for a specific scene, this video includes several scenes from Hotel and knocks it out of the fucking park!

Halloween is coming lick it up, like I did after the jump!

OK, I have made an executive decision. Due to the popularity of this column I hereby decree my musings will now be posted every Thursday. No more Throwback Thursday for this guy. Now every TBT you are going to get my impressions of the past week heading into the weekend.

No tricks here, time for a treat!

A shout out to Ms. Summer Rudolph, my cousin who I have not seen in...yeah you get the picture. Loved connecting again at Marix Tex Mex in West Hollywood, CA. Grrrrrrrrrl you rock!

Marla Maples is so gangsta!

Dear twink who insists on sitting shotgun to me in Jessica's Spin Class at Gold's Gym Hollywood. Just stop please. Your energy is annoying and reminds me of a puppy dry humping my leg.

Most of you would be less offended if Hillary Clinton were a man. "Yes" I'm playing the sexism card.

Hello Kim Kardashian, can you seriously not get if there are those who think your being robbed is a publicity stunt?!

Man on Man flirting. To all you men out there, develop the art of flirting with other men whether you are gay or straight. Trust me it works. Especially if you are a gay man flirting with a straight one. It may not get you laid, but it sure will get you what you want.

Marilyn Monroe. Yep, that thought just happened.

Is it just me or is Mark Cuban hot?

Sometimes I like to imagine I am a male version of Miriam Blaylock in The Hunger. What? You think you have a better fantasy? Bring it!

It turns out it really is better with a towel.

The Halloween Five

Satan In Disguise -
Michael Shinafelt

"Happy, Happy Halloween, Halloween, Halloween. Happy, Happy Halloween, Silver Shamrock!"

Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a quite underrated movie. John Carpenter and Debra Hill were approached by Universal to do a third Halloween film after the studio picked up the sequel to the indie smash Halloween.

Their plan? To do a franchise under the Halloween banner every year, with a different theme. Turns out the public demanded and only had love for Michael Myers. Gotta give those two credit though for trying to be innovative and fun!

Which brings me to the theme of this year's Season of the Witch post. I am going to give you five of my favorite fright films, in no particular order, with the exception of number one. I bet you already know what that is...
Halloween
Always Number 1!
1) Halloween - This is my one and only when it comes to sheer horror. I can not count how many times I have seen it and how much I love it! It was the first horror film my Father took me to, and it scared the shit out of me. It is still under my skin to this day, even though I know what's coming. Jamie Lee Curtis rules!

2) Excision - Teen angst, domineering mothers, delusional aspirations of being a world class surgeon.
This psychological gore fest is a brilliant feature debut from Director/Writer Richard Bates, Jr. It also features two great performances from AnnaLynne McCord and Traci Lords.

3) Psycho - Like mother like daughter. Janet Leigh shocked the world of cinema by appearing in Alfred Hithcock's then explicit and never seen nothing like it thriller Psycho. Janet as you may or may not know was the mother of future Scream Queen and Halloween star, Jamie Lee Curtis. This movie still holds up today as a master class in film making and what an intelligent slasher film could and should be.
4) The Hunger - was anything sexier than Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie slashing their prey's throats with an ankh and drinking their blood at the height of orgasm? Well, one more thing in this awesome vampire flick was, the sex scene between Deneuve turning Susan Sarandon into her latest immortal fling. Tony Scott's best.

5) Cat People - No, not the original in 1942. That one I never saw the big deal about. But the re-imagining of it by auteur Paul Schrader. While the film is more of an erotic fantasy. It is peppered with enough horror elements and violence to really set it above the cut. With Malcom McDowell at his freaky best and Nastassja Kinski doing what she does best...meow, sex kitten.

While these are not the only Holiday Flicks I love, they are the cream of the crop to me. With John Carpenter's Halloween always remaining #1 in my blackened heart.

Happy Halloween! Until next year...

American Horror Story: Hotel - Discuss

Werd!
Let's face it every season of American Horror Story divides fans of the genre pro and con. But they keep coming back for more? Why? Because no matter what your opinion on the individual seasons AHS captures something that gets under every horror fans skin on some level.

This season the divide seems to be a little larger in terms of pro and con. After all the shows anchor from the very beginning, acclaimed actress Jessica Lange exited after four seasons. Two of them good, one of them OK and another one tragic. Who took her place? Why none other than the multi-talented pop icon Lady Gaga - now that's diversity!

So I decided to enlist my niece and fellow horror fanatic, Kelly Waters to discuss what she thinks of season five "Hotel" - time to check in, Kelly!

MS: Before we start what's your favorite horror movie off the top of your head?

KW: Well, by far my favorite is John Carpenter's "Halloween," I've seen it millions of times.

MS: It's mine too! I watch it every year.

KW: Yeah, I watch it every year and all year long. I never get tired of it!

My Niece & Partner In Crime
Kelly Waters
MS: So, let's talk "American Horror Story: Hotel" - I'm really liking it!

KW: I fricking love it! It's dirty, raunchy...It's probably a little much for cable television, but I love that! Oh My God, seriously like the metal dildo, whoooooa?! My butt cringed!

MS: Well I didn't find it shocking, you expect AHS to push the envelope, but I thought: ouch!

KW: Yeah, it's like, wow, ok, we're taking it to that level.

MS: A lot of people were upset about Jessica Lange leaving. Personally I was actually excited, I felt it would take the show to a whole new level.

KW: Yes, I agree. I love her though.

MS: So, do I but Ryan Murphy always built the show around Jessica, and now he built it around Lady Gaga. It's raunchy, glamorous and over the top gory. Yeah, I like her in it!

KW: I was really shocked about how good she turned out to be. Because I was really unsure. It was like Oooooh, I don't know...I'm not like the biggest Lady Gaga fan, but I don't hate her by any means. She has definitely surpassed my expectations.

MS: You saw "The Hunger" didn't you?

KW: Uh, no I didn't

MS:  Lady Gaga and Matt Bomer were modeled after the Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie characters in it. We all know there is nothing new in the world and that people borrow from everything. There is nothing wrong with that.

KW: Right.

MS: Just put your own spin on it.

KW: Exactly!

MS: There's nothing new anymore, get over it!

KW: No, there is nothing original these days.

MS: Do you have a crush on Matt Bomer? I do.

KW: Oh yes, he is so cute!
What Are You Going To Do?
Lady Gaga & Matt Bomer

MS: Every year AHS always goes many places that are taboo. This year to me it is The Countess feeding her stable of children so she in turn can drink their blood. How do you feel about that as a Mother?

KW: Because this season is focused on vampires, it certainly didn't shock me. The fact that they are hooked up to to the machines and aren't being bled to death, did not really bother me. The machines to me made that disconnect, it wasn't like she was sitting there  feeding directly off of them. That would most likely make me a little more queasy. Or if she was tearing their heads off or something. But the way it is portrayed it doesn't really have the disturbing feeling for me. Now that I am a Mom I am pretty sensitive to that.

MS: So the verdict is we are both loving this season of AHS.

KW: Yes, definitely!

Friday, Bloody Friday...

"It's Not The Getting Ready, It's The Clean Up"
Lady Gaga & Matt Bomer
I don't know about you, but after the Wednesday premiere of American Horror Story: Hotel my appetite for all things bloody has spiked.

Vampire type things really hit me where I live as I always wanted to be one when I was a young lad. Yep, it's true!

And nothing beats an orgy that ends in blood lust I always say. That's one of those reasons vampires will always be cooler than us mere mortals.

So I am leaving you with the image of Lady Gaga and Matt Bomer with their blood soaked victims post orgasm for the weekend.

Yes, Gaga and Bomer paid tribute to the the great vampire film The Hunger, by channeling their inner Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie, and I loved it!

I can't wait for next week's episode...bring it, I want more!

American Horror Story: Coven

In honor of this time of year I always post about the current season of "American Horror Story" or as I used to call it prior to this season; "The Jessica Lange Show".

Well "AHS" has upped the acting/diva ante this year with the addition of two other acting legends: Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett. Along with a trio of talented young actresses Emma Roberts,
Gabourey Sidibe and Taissa Farmiga, yeah say those names together three times fast.

Seasoned acting divas vs. young acting divas! Of course while the veterans are the most interesting but the young ones hold their own in what so far is working itself out to be an interesting entry into the "AHS" anthology now in it's 3rd season.
Kathy Bates & Jessica Lange
Two episodes in I feel like the season is really just getting started and we are in for something that is going to blow our collective cauldrons off!

One of the cool things is how "AHS" pays homage to other horror films with a wink and a nod, yet makes it their own. My personal favorite so far? The well deserved tribute to my favorite vampire film of all time, the late Tony Scott's "The Hunger". All of you "Hunger" fans know the scene of which I speak the one with First Lady Jessica Lange in the laboratory with the experimental aging drugs on a monkey, oh yes!

The demented Kathy Bates and her love of pancreas blood from her slaves to keep her young and Ms. Angela Bassett so good as a fictionalized version of Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen of New Orelans, whose grave I have actually been to, Marie's not Angela's.
Angela Bassett as "Marie Laveau"

Yes, you are engaging with one hardcore horror fan, someone who is so much one I visited the location of this seasons story, New Orleans, LA for Halloween one year, make of it what you will, or be well and carry on.

That being said fictionalized Marie Laveau so far is the scariest of the witches to me, even Bassett's line delivery of: "She done messed with the wrong witch" sends chills up my spine. Kathy Bates making a Minotaur out of one of her Black slaves that slept with her lily White daughter is pretty unnerving too.

But Ms. Lange takes the top prize as usual as her eternal youth seeking and sucking "Fiona" who will stop at nothing in a cocaine induced rage to get her some, Fountain of Youth, that is...

Emma Roberts as a half assed actress "Madison" who killed someone on set with a hanging light because he told her to hit her mark, takes top prize as my favorite of the young Witches, not to mention her destroying a whole bus of fraternity boys who gang raped her, way to go "Madison"!

Gabourey Sidibe takes best line of the season thus far for referring to one of her only witch role models growing up as "Sabrina, The Teenage Cracker" - love it!

Gabourey Sidibe: "Sabrina The Teenage Cracker"
And Taissa Farmiga as the Witch who has a "vagina that kills" gotta love a Killer V!

Interestingly enough the show really brings horror into a realm where the last two seasons have gone, but more so, it makes horror an estrogen game. Most horror is male dominated, but every season of "AHS" has really made the female characters the powerful ones, the ones who have driven the story, not the passive victims they are in standard Hollywood fare.

That, for me as a huge horror fan has always been one of the more interesting things about "AHS" - it really is all about the estrogen...can't wait for more of "Coven"!

The Horror: On "Entertain Me"

I'm such a Devil
'Tis the season to get scary, fa la la la la, la la la la - This October 2012 here on "Entertain Me" along with  our typical entertainment blogs, we are introducing a Halloween oriented blog that will be posted throughout the month featuring my fellow lovers of things that go bump in the night called: "The Horror" -

When you see this at the beginning of a blog you can either choose to run or bask in the glory that is gory, scary & fun!

Me on "The Lair"
Every subject of a blog with this caption is a lover of all things macabre and other worldly or directly involved in a project that is reflective of that sensibility -

So, here is a little something on yours truly, I love horror, I can't wait for the premiere of "American Horror Story" on October 17th! My favorite horror movie of all time is the original "Halloween" - Alfred Hitchock's "Psycho" is a close second.

I love haunted houses and hay rides and if I could be a supernatural creature I would love to be a vampire - oh and the late great Tony Scott's "The Hunger" is my favorite vampire movie ever.

The devil would be a second choice as a hot supernatural creature to be.

Also I have been in two horror projects, the Here TV Show "The Lair" where I played a "Leather Daddy Vampire" and the hot award winning flick Joe Castro's "The Summer of Massacre" where I play an undercover cop who gets his skull crushed in by The Boogeyman...!

R.I.P: Tony Scott

This writer is indeed sorry to hear of Director Tony Scott's recent suicide, it was revealed today that he took his life over an inoperable brain tumor.

Tony directed many prolific films such as "Top Gun" & "True Romance" - most people forget (since it is so different from the rest of his repertoire) That he directed the elegant and artsy vampire flick "The Hunger".

With three of the most interesting leads in cinema history, the elegant and timeless Catherine Deneuve, the sexy and sensual Susan Sarandon & the enigmatic and never boring David Bowie.

This was a film that shaped me in my youth. Thanks to my late Father I have always had a thing for horror films. Cut to my first job ever in at the tender age of 16 in a movie theatre - and guess what film played in it, you guessed it "The Hunger"...

A modern take on vampire's it was the first time I had seen horror and eroticism blended so elegantly and artistically - this showed how horror could be adult and exciting. Since I got to see movies for free, I watched this at least 10 times! Sadly Hollywood does not make adult horror anymore and that's really a shame, and I think Scott's vampire yarn was pretty close to the last of this breed.

Tony Scott's "The Hunger" is one of the great modern horror films of American Cinema - and it really affected this writer, in fact one of my proudest possessions is the original lobby poster which I acquired on the job, I have it framed in my apt.

While there are many memories for everyone of this late great director of cinema, this is my personal and favorite one.

"Nothing Human Loves Forever"
