Film Buff Friday: Re-Animator

I remember Re-Animator causing quite a stir when it came out, yes that makes me old. I love this movie! I also saw the musical version by it's creator Stuart Gordon a few years back  in Los Angeles.

It was on point, and Stuart was there that night. The more you know...

HERBERT WEST HAS A GOOD HEAD ON HIS SHOULDERS... AND ANOTHER ONE ON HIS DESK.

One of the most wildly popular horror movies of all-time, Stuart Gordon's enduring splatter-comedy classic Re-Animator returns to Blu-ray in a stunning restoration packed with special features!

When medical student Dean Cain advertises for a roommate, he soon finds one in the form of Dr. Herbert West. Initially a little eccentric, it some becomes clear that West entertains some seriously outlandish theories - specifically, the possibility of re-animating the dead. It's not long before Dean finds himself under West's influence, and embroiled in a serious of ghoulish experiments which threaten to go wildly out of control...

Based on H.P. Lovecraft's classic terror tale Herbert West - Reanimator and featuring a standout performance from Jeffrey Combs as the deliciously deranged West, Re-Animator remains the ground-zero of '80s splatter mayhem and one of the genre's finest hours.

Think Of What You've Always Wanted..."Beauty and the Beast"

Beastie Girl
Emma Watson
Well, well, well the first full length feature trailer for Disney's live action version of their animated classic Beauty and the Beast has been released. I have one thing to say: for the love of Emma Watson, magnificent!

This looks like the reel deal. Yes, I meant to spell real that way, as it seems like a really heartfelt & beautiful transition from animation to live action that has the heart and soul of the material of which it is based on.

Personally, I loved the animated BB when it came out in theaters. That's pretty abnormal for someone who really has not liked many animated films since he was a child. I believed I actually dropped a tear or two, FML!

Now onto my Emma Watson love. I am a curmudgeon, thus I so could not get into the first Harry Potter epic that I did not watch the others. But Emma has really proved herself to be an intelligent, poised not to mention articulate young woman who I greatly admire. I did see her in  My Week With Marilyn though, In short, she is one of my girl crushes.

Dear Emma, hey you, I will be seeing this.

Respect & admiration always...jump to the trailer below!

FBF: Welcome To Camp Crystal Lake...

"Kill her, Mommy! Kill her! Don't let her get away, Mommy! Don't let her live!"
- Pamela Voorhees

Since I participated in Throwback Thursday yesterday, because, well it was Thursday, duh, I thought I would take the opportunity to engage in Flashback Friday, ya know, since it's Friday the 13th after all.

Think back to the year 1980 when the original Friday the 13th movie was released at the height of the slasher film craze. At what point was that in your life? Me? I was a Freshman in High School, be nice now.

I was too young to get in to see it solo and no one would take me. So I had to wait for home video. What I do remember was it upped the ante in terms of graphic killings on screen.

The story of  doomed counselors at the now legendary Camp Crystal Lake aka Camp Blood had critics recoiling and audiences shrieking!

Everyone in school who had been able to see it was a buzz about it describing the bloody deaths of the camp staff with a perverse glee.

When I finally got around to seeing it, the horror movie that raised the bar had been surpassed by others post it.

The original Friday the 13th is now considered a horror classic because of it's influence on the genre. Something I know at the time was never contemplated of happening.

It remains one of my favorites of a specific place and time in cinema, because, in case you haven't guessed it "Yes"I love a good scare...Boo! Happy Friday the 13th!

Check out the trailer for the original Friday the 13th after the jump!

Miley Cyrus is a Happy Hippie

Don't Dream It's Over - Miley Cyrus & Ariana Grande
MIley Cyrus teamed up with Ariana Grande recently for an off the hook cover of the Crowded House hit Don't Dream It's Over for her series of Happy Hippie Backyard Sessions.

The philanthropic Ms.Cyrus's nonprofit organization, Happy Hippie, works to “rally young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.”

I love Miley not only is she an amazing singer she gives back in a big way too!

Appropriately dressed in a Unicorn onesie with Ms. Grande as her sidekick dressed in a Mouse onesie, the two bring a shiny and new take on the classic song.

Hey, the Unicorn and the Mouse should be friends.

Give it a listen below...

She captioned the pic: "'Your mom called....she freaked me out. And then there's that other guy far left.' #AlmostFamousLove."

Stay "White" With Sandy Zacky

"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, with every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright, and may all
your Christmases be white" - "White Christmas" Irving Berlin

OK, it's December 1st and Thanksgiving is over. Time to turn and face the reality that Christmas is only twenty four quick days away.

Well every year at Entertain Me we kick off the month of giving with our resident chanteuse Sandy with a "Y" not "E" Zacky and her beautiful rendition of White Christmas.

I actually saw her perform this live at her show at Cal State Northridge, CSUN for short in 2008 around coincidentally enough, Christmas time...

Sandy knocked them dead with her show and made everyone in the house sentimental and all warm and fuzzy with her special interpretation of this Holiday classic.

Deck those halls and hang those balls Christmas will be here before you know it people!

Sandy singing White Christmas is a great kick off for the countdown to C-day. Sleigh it girl!

"I Like You" Debby Holiday

One of my favorite singers and people, Debby Holiday is back with a new twist on a chart topping classic "I Like You."

The song celebrates the 30-year anniversary of Phyllis Nelson’s original. It was a #1 hit on the Billboard Dance Chart in 1985.

I checked in with Debby to get an exclusive comment for Entertain Me on her current gem:

"What an amazing journey this has been with Tony Moran. From the first phone call when he told me about the song - to our time in the studio & filming the video! Tony works with passion & focus like I do … & I'm thrilled to hopefully honor the beautiful & talented Phyllis Nelson. Music … what a blessing!"

Yes, it was Mr. Moran's idea to cover the Phyllis Nelson original and he asked Debby to do the honor. I for one am glad he did.

This is Ms. Holiday's third collaboration with Tony - hey if it ain't broke, keep going!

Ellen Degeneres Goes Lesbian For NBC

Elisha Cuthbert
Sixteen years after Ellen Degeneres came out on Ellen another network comedy with a lesbian lead is coming to primetime.

NBC has given a pilot order to a multi-camera comedy executive produced by DeGeneres.

The project, titled One Big Happy, is written/exec produced by openly gay comedy scribe Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls).

In it, a gay (woman) and straight (man) best friends decide to have a baby together, but things get complicated when the man finds the love of their life.

Um, I was going to say "Holy Will & Grace" but this sounds a whole lot more interesting and progressive.

Elisha Cuthbert from the classic show 24 and the awful remake of House of Wax (sorry Elisha I like you but, damn, really?!) is set to star in the pilot.

Can  I get a hey now?!

"Holiday" Celebrate, It's Christmas Day !

Warning: This Is Not The Virgin Mary
"If we took a holiday, Took some time to celebrate

Just one day out of life

It would be, it would be so nice"

In the wake of the group with the retro 80's sound Capital Cities recent performance of the Madonna classic on The Queen Latifah Show I thought I would wish everyone a Merry Christmas with a fond memory of my youth, Madonna's "Holiday" hey she never specified which one, or what kind, so it works in a universal sense.

When I was an impressionable 17 year old man I will never forget my first foray to Skoochie's (R.I.P.) a 16 and older club in Seattle, WA and seeing this woman with rubber bracelets and rosaries for days hanging off her bare midriff, it was really cool and an eye opener to the sheltered life I had been leading.

Since Christmas is a time of fond memories, and the 80's version of Madonna is one for me. Let's take a Holiday and celebrate, below...

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Courtney Love Gives You "A Spoonful Of Bones" For Christmas

Lot's Of "Love" In This Spoonful

What else did you expect from the reigning Punk Priestess? With "Saving Mr. Banks" coming soon to a theater near you, Ms. Love decided to give us her take on the "Mary Poppins" classic "A Spoonful Of Sugar" for a spoken word piece in Garage Magazine.

This rendition that I found out about via Stephan Horbelt in Frontiers Magazine on my Facebook  home page really made my day, Thanks Stephan! We all need some edge to our Holidays, no? Because really the season tends to be a little bit overkill on the saccharine.

So for something a little different here is Ms. Courtney Love with her poetic take on a  "A Spoonful Of Sugar" - "A Spoonful Of Bones" lock up the young ones and take a swig of whiskey, or three and enjoy!
