17 More Days...Halloween Ends

Laurie Strode
Jamie Lee Curtis

Today is the official opening of Halloween Ends. I however saw it last night at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood upon my return home from Palm Springs.

OK, here's the unpopular opinion I liked Halloween Ends. It was a slow burn character driven film that had the feel and look of the original 1978 version.

I don't wanna give too much away, but the showdown between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode is what it should be and the ending works.

David Gordon Green has crafted something unique here. I'm not sure what people were really expecting, but...it's a cut above, and beyond, quite frankly of all the Halloween cash in sequels that happened before Mr. Green's trilogy.

Halloween is coming, today and in 17 more, are you ready Minions...Boo!

"Bad Black Kitty Cat"

Psychedelic bubble-gum, pop band Kitty in the Tree (1993-2002) are set to release their first single in 25 years today with the release of “Bad Black Kitty Cat” from their upcoming album The Lost Years in 2023. The single is out today on all digital platforms & their Halloween inspired video can be seen here.

Kitty in the Tree were founded in Princeton NJ in 1993 by Patrick Flynn and Orion Simprini (The Orion Experience) & made a name for themselves in the tri-state area inspired by the burgeoning “Alternative” music scene that was taking hold on the Jersey shore. KITT’s first taste of success came when influential DJ, Matt Pinfield of WHTG, 106.3 featured their single “Maybe We’ll Get Somewhere” on his popular radio show. The exposure from Pinfield soon led to KITT opening for Ween, Cake and Letters to Cleo. In 1999 KITT released their first and only full-length album, Hello KittyHello Kitty, a colorful Glam-rock meets bubblegum pop vibe celebration of hedonism, freedom, and gender fluidity. KITT toured throughout the early aughts in support of Hello Kitty, sharing the stage with The Strokes, The White Stripes, and The Moldy Peaches.

KITT’s music was colorful and chaotic, melodic and messy, much like the clip-art-collage album covers that Patrick Flynn would create. They relocated from Princeton to New York City in 1996 in the dawn of the so-called Post-Punk Revival on the Lower East Side circa Lizzy Goodman’s tome Meet Me In The Bathroom. Now 25 years later, after reconnecting as friends, Flynn and Simprini have been resurrecting what remains of the desiccated cassette tapes, stuffed in a shoe box, hidden in a closet, doomed to be forgotten. Remixed and Remastered, these wild, weird pop gems will be rereleased as a full-length album; Kitty in the Tree: The Lost Years. This decade spanning cacophony of musical mischief will be rediscovered in 2023, with additional select singles to be released throughout the year.

Redrum...23 More Days!

Michael Shinafelt

Facebook Memories can remind you of the darndest things. Like apparently three years ago I did this meme on this day when it too was exactly 23 days from Halloween.

I look at it now and think about why I did a meme inspired by the classic The Shining and the phrase Danny Torrance has on repeat: Redrum the earworm that keeps on giving (for those not in the loop Redrum is Murder spelled backwards.)

Honestly the answer is who knows what inspired something that was most likely spontaneous three years ago. Sometimes I don't even remember what I ate yesterday.

Thus let's throw caution to the wind this Saturday October 8th 2022 and revel in the most wonderful time of the year!

Hey Minions we have 23 more days to let loose with our inner freak and revel in the madness...

Hump Day & Chill

I Think We're Alone Now
Jennifer Tilly & Chucky

Alright Minions with it being the most wonderful time of the year you must have some idea of what we are going to Hump Day & Chill with today, no?

Well if you think about it, but not too much. What awesome TV series based on a homicidal doll debuts it's second season tonight at 9pm on USA and SyFy Networks?

It's everyone's favorite red head Chucky!!!

Here he is with looking quite chummy with his co-star Jennifer Tilly who plays Tiffany Valentine, will she be yours? Fingers crossed and butcher knives drawn she won't (consider that a VD gift.)

The first season of Chucky was amazing, so unexpectedly inventive. The reviews for season two say it this season is even better than the first. I'm not sure how they could top the first, equal it, yeah, but topping it?! Wow! This is going to be a Hump Day & Chill Halloween treat!!!

Hello October...

Alfred Hitchcock's
Psycho

I love the Fall and I especially love October as it is Spooky Season all month long! "Yes" this is truly the most wonderful time of the year (if you know, you know.)

Thus welcome October 1st, that makes it a mere 30 days until Halloween...Boo!!!

I am commemorating the first day of October 2022 with a montage of images from one of my favorite horror classics of all time Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho.

This is a film I watch every year to celebrate the macabre and never tire of, I've definitely seen it South of twenty times.

What's that you ask? No I'm not going to get into why I will leave that up to more capable hands. The Minions behind Wikipedia, naturally...

Gird your loins and let's have some scary fun this month!!!

Only 36 More Days...

Well Minions it's only 36 more days until Halloween and 18 more days until the saga between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode comes to it's conclusion with Halloween Ends, on October 14th to be exact.

I can't wait for both!!! "Yes" I am a big horror person and a HUGE fan of the original 1978 Halloween.

The tagline for this teaser poster to Kills is a favorite of mine "Fear Makes Monsters."

It really sums up a lot of what Michael Myers is, and why his popularity endures. He is a cypher that we know nothing about, thus all of our doubts and anxiety can be easily projected on to him. It is precisely those things that have made Michael one of the all time great horror icons, we truly fear him.

So gird your loins, and break out the butcher knife! Halloween 2022 is going to be one for the books!

Halloween Countdown

It's mid September, thus it is not too early for me to start counting down the days until Halloween, 45 at present.

Also I could not resist posting this awesome mash-up of Scooby Doo v Michael Myers.

"Yes" that's the intrepid Fred receiving the brunt of Michael's rage in a way that is quite reminiscent of Annie's boyfriend Paul in the 1978 classic.

FYI I did not have to look the above reference or information up, that's how much of a fan of the original I am. How many times have I seen it? I would estimated at this point roughly 50 since I watch it every year it is aired during spooky season and then some.

So grab yourself a Scooby Snack and the it will only be the tip, I promise...

Hump Day & Chill

Here we are Minions a scant 68 days away from Halloween and an even lesser 51 days from the conclusion of the current Halloween trilogy, Halloween Ends.

Honestly I can't decide which one I am more excited for, thus I declare it a tie. Thus let's Hump Day & Chill to my favorite time of the year.

"Yes" in case you didn't know I am a huge horror fan and of all the days of Spooky Season leading up to Halloween.

Also the buzz about Halloween Ends is that takes an entirely different direction than any other Halloween movie ever. Which will hit or miss, fingers crossed it's the former.

So let's give a big Hump Day & Chill to everything Halloween and then some!

Sunday Funday!

The Dynamic Duo
Michael Myers & Ghostface

Here we are at Sunday Funday Minions and as you all know by now I love Spooky Season! Thus I could not pass up the opportunity to post this seasonal bad ass image I saw on Twitter.

With a scant 85 more days until Halloween and just over a month until the season arrives, hey, the whole month of October is one big Halloween euphoria after all.

Together at last, it's none other than the face of Halloween Michael Myers and the face of Scream Ghostface!!!

Halloween & Scream are two of the most enduring horror franchises in Hollywood history as you know. "Yes" I have seen all the Scream movies. While I confess with the exception of Halloween III: Season of the Witch, the only Halloween films I've seen are the ones with Jamie Lee Curtis in them (with the exception of Halloween Resurrection.)

So enjoy your Sunday Funday with these two, I know I will...

Black Celebration

Happy Halloween Minions! I had a Black Celebration yesterday in honor of today. "Yes" I finally viewed the slasher film that heavily influenced everything from the original Halloween to When A Stranger Calls...Black Christmas!

Please don't confuse this 1974 original with any of the lame re-dos. This is one good slash fest with very little slashing, but heavy on the creepy atmosphere, not to mention an even creepier killer who has a thing for making obscene phone calls to the women in the sorority he is stalking.

This macabre outing was directed by Bob Clark who would go on to direct another Christmas movie the classic A Christmas Story. Hey, he's got a Santa fetish, or something I guess.

It stars Oliva Hussey of Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet fame along with Margot Kidder best know as Lois Lane in the Superman movie.

Throw that in with some top notch camera work that set the standard for the slasher genre and well you've got one bangin' Christmas present I'll say! In fact I just did!

Let Christmas come a little early and treat yourself to this movie for Halloween...Boo!

The Bride Of Frankenstein

Will You Love Me Tomorrow?
Miranda Kerr & Frankenstein

Psssssst! One more day until Halloween! Thus I thought this spin on The Bride Of Frankenstein with Miranda Kerr and, well, Frankenstein captures the spirit (yeah, pun intended) of the season.

For the unfamiliar The Bride Of Frankenstein is a horror classic anchored by a great performance by Elsa Lanchester as the title character and Boris Karloff as Frankenstein.

While Miranda's take on the Bride is a lot lighter and more whimsical, it was enough take catch my eye (literally, seriously, I am now minus my right eye...NOT!) and post it for it's maniacal genius take on the legendary movie.

Thus enjoy your last day until darkness falls across the land and the celebrations of macabre commence!

Film Buff Friday: The Hills Have Eyes

"One of the prime examples of what was so fascinating about American horror films in the 1970s".

     —TV Guide

Horror master Wes Craven achieved critical and commercial success with the likes of Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street - but for many genre fans, the director's seminal 1977 effort The Hills Have Eyes remains his masterpiece. Taking an ill-advised detour en route to California, the Carter family soon run into trouble when their campervan breaks down in the middle of the desert. Stranded, the family find themselves at the mercy of a group of monstrous cannibals lurking in the surrounding hills. With their lives under threat, the Carters have no choice but to fight back by any means necessary. Following on from his notorious 1972 directorial debut The Last House on the Left, Craven's The Hills Have Eyes stands alongside the likes of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Night of the Living Dead as one of the defining classics of American horror.

Just Because...Dracula

Sucker
Dracula

Just Because in a scant five days it's Halloween, Just Because I saw the Francis Ford Coppola version on TV yesterday & Just Because I'm about to take flight I hereby bequeath you the original Dracula.

There was a time when Bela Lugosi wasn't dead and very much alive portraying the creature of the night.

I have seen it and it is quite well done with a lot of sneaky things thrown in to get past the censors. If you haven't viewed it and are a film buff sort of individual I suggest you do. It's got atmosphere to burn and a great performance by Mr. Lugosi.

Also it was directed by Tod Browning who also helmed the masterpiece Freaks.

So what are you waiting for?! Watch Dracula and watch it now!!!

Monday Mood

A Toast
Jennifer Tilly & Tiffany

As we head into the final days of October aka the remaining days until Halloween I am going to be feeling all things macabre. Tis the season time to revel as they all say (or is it me that says that?)

Thus Jennifer Tilly and her alter ego Tiffany (ya know from the Bride of Chucky) lounging by the pool drinking champagne captures my Monday Mood disturbingly well.

It's the right amount of chill, with some macabre thrown in and completely 100% certified (by me) cool 😎

Hey, being un-cool is the one thing you don't want this time of year, be there or be skewered.

Well Jennifer just invited me to come by and join her and Tiffany for a toast. So now I've got to pull myself together and get my Monday Mood started!

In One Week...

Halloween
1978/2018

With it being merely one week until Halloween (damn this month went fast!) I thought it fitting to pay mask service (see what I did there?) to my favorite movie of all time the original 1978 Halloween.

I remember seeing it in a theater and the audience screaming, gasping and yelling "get out of the house" or "run" at Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode. It was thrilling, and you know what? Halloween still holds up to this day. I watch it religiously every year.

What's that you say? Are you asking me to address the sequels and the current reboot? OK, here you go...

TBH I've only ever seen the sequels with Jamie Lee Curtis in them, and Halloween III, the Michael Myers less entry. Oh, and I turned Resurrection off after Laurie strode, was, well offed in the beginning (it's the only one I've seen on TV) I saw the others in a theater first including H20.

So let's get to the main question, how am I liking he current reboot? I enjoyed 2018 and the mask service it paid to the original and while the current sequel Halloween Kills is divisive among the fans, I took it for what it was, a homage to the original Halloween II sequel with Jamie Lee Curtis. Which has Laurie Strode sidelined in the hospital and was a straight up slasher film.

PS I don't think H20 holds up, contrary to popular opinion amongst the Minions. I saw it again this month so I do have a basis for this opinion.

But nothing will top the original 1978 film, ever! So if you'll excuse me tradition beckons. "Yes" I'm gonna get me some Halloween...Boo!

Monday Mood

Got Sow?
The Exorcist

After a lovely weekend, heading into the new week feels like my head is spinning. "Yes" my Monday Mood is definitely on point with the season. Hey, it's a mere thirteen days until Halloween and I've got so many things to attend to, naturally.

I've got this and so do you.

So what are you waiting for Minions? Time to bend it like Regan in The Exorcist and get those heads spinning!

What's New Pussycat?

Meow!
Vanessa Hudgens

Thus the countdown to Halloween continues with a scant 15 days left till the High Holy Day. Here is another of my favorite celebrity Season of the Witch costumes, why it's none other than Vanessa Hudgens as the Michelle Pfeiffer version of Catwoman from Batman Returns.

She captioned this awesome pic on Instagram: "Who needs a Batman when u can have a Batdog"

Cute, but not nearly as fetching as Hudgens is in the get up, she really gives Michelle Pfeiffer a run for her money donning the same Pussycat garb.

Speaking of Halloween, catching Halloween Kills today, whether fans like it or not there is one thing they all seem to agree on - It's the most violent Halloween film in the series.

I will let you know my thoughts tomorrow, in the meantime stay spooky!

It's Medusa Time!

Turn To Stone
Cardi B

Honestly I am a sucker for an all out amazing Halloween costume and when I came across this image of Cardi B as Medusa, well...

This to me is perfection, and as you know it's all in the details Minions. I wonder if she turned anyone to stone (if you get my drift and I think you do.)

Only one question remains about this genius idea, did she slither or crawl?

20 More Days...!!!

I would be a bad Halloween fan if I did not seize the opportunity to post H20 with, well 20 days until Halloween, duh!

Thus that's it, that's today's post.

What's that you ask? Did I like H20? It's not bad Minions, I actually watched it again for the first time since seeing it in a movie theater this past week and well, it holds up. It is actually better than I remembered it being TBH.

Personally, and I know there are those who would not agree with this, I like the 2018 sequel better. But H20 isn't bad, the 2018 model was more intense is why I like it best.

There you have it, I drew blood on which one I like more.

And aren't you happy?!
