Do you know where the quote in my byline comes from today? If you do, then you are old. It comes from the TV show Fantasy Island which premiered January 14, 1977. The line was uttered every week by the character Mr. Roarke played by the late Ricardo Montalban.
This quote popped into my head (yes, I am old(er) not old) when I spotted this photo of Katy Perry attending Minnie Mouse's star ceremony on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Mickey Mouse was there too, naturally.
Minnie has been playing the Hollywood game for 90 years it's about time this ageless beauty got honored, she's more than earned it!

"Stumbling around like a wasted zombie, Yeah, we think we're free, Drink, this one is on me" - Chained To The Rhythm, Katy Perry Being that it's Monday and such, I thought it appropriate to kick off the week with Katy Perry performing her latest song Chained To The Rhythm at the iHeartRadio Music Awards last night. Ms. Perry has come a long way from when she was a mere pop tart singing I Kissed A Girl. First off she is no longer a brunette, she is now platinum blonde. Also her music as an artist has grown to new heights with her current 80's style political song Chained To The Rhythm. Part of the video depicts the customers at the amusement park where it is set going round in circles on a hamster wheel, thus my feeling it is the perfect song to kick off Monday, or not depending on your world view. I personally try to live my life to the fullest and stay positive. Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors aired on NBC in 2015, inspiring millions of viewers with its story of faith and family. Set in 1955 in the Great Smoky Mountains, the film showcases a poignant time in Parton’s childhood, as her family struggles with loss, grapples with religion, and ultimately triumphs with the healing power of love. Alyvia Alyn Lind stars as the nine-year-old singer who was given a patchwork coat made by her mother, played by Jennifer Nettles. Ricky Schroder portrays Parton’s father, along with Gerald McRaney as her grandfather. The movie was watched by more than 16 million viewers, making it one of the most-watched TV movies of all time. It's Superbowl 2015 Everyone! The Seattle Seahawks will battle the New England Patriots for the championship. The only sure thing about today's game is that Katy Perry will be performing the half time show and Idina Menzel will be singing the national anthem.
Also both Katy and Idina are rooting for my favorite and hometown team to win the Seattle Seahawks, Go Hawks! Yay!
Katy's reason for cheering on the Seahawks? "I love the Seahawks because of Russell Wilson so I think I'm going to go for them."
While were at it here are a few other sure things about what will happen during Katy Perry's half time show that she teased viewers with:
Addressing Lenny Kravitz's guest appearance: "We've worked up something incredibly soulful. Of course, he brings the soul and it's just going to make the night even sexier."
Katy will use land and water animals: "I'm probably going to be the only person in Super Bowl halftime history that will ever bring a lion and sharks to the show. It's going to be wild out there." Katy confirmed she will perform "Roar" and "Firework" and many more songs: "I can tell I will be playing those anthemic numbers. ... While checking out E! News this morning the headline that stood out to me the most was the Katy Perry would be performing the iconic half time show for 2015's Superbowl.
Now I am not saying Katy Perry sucks, I have liked a few songs she has done, Firework for one comes to mind. But she, at least to me, does not really have the cache of a Beyonce' or a Madonna. Her career is pretty feather weight by comparison.
Oh well, not my company not my choice of who to use. While I am sure her performance will be entertaining I'm just not sure it will reach the potential high that viewers expect from this yearly extravaganza.
My friend EG Daily has just done an amazing, quite raw cover of the Katy Perry song "Wide Awake" I wanted to share it with everyone and check in with EG herself about her thoughts on it...
MS: So you recently went viral with a video of you and a piano player covering Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" I loved it!
EG: It's my favorite Katy Perry song, I got with my piano player, and I wasn't going to post it because I thought it was so raw. Me in my living room my piano player, Lee Miles and I playing around with the material....then I thought: "Fuck it, post it"!
MS: It's really funny, I'm not a huge Katy Perry fan but I really like this song.
EG: The song is really good, right? It's a great song.
MS: Totally!
EG: I didn't think I liked it until I heard my piano player playing it one day and I said how beautiful the song sounded, he said it's the Katy Perry song, I told him it didn't sound like it. Then we started messing around with it, and I told him how much I loved it, good lyrics, good song.
MS: The lyrics are amazing, the best thing about it. Very healing, things are so rough for everybody right now.
EG: Yeah Honey, I know.
MS: Your cover is really raw, but I like raw.
EG: I do too, it's the real thing.

Pentatonix, the season 3 winners of the NBC a cappella singing competition series, "The Sing Off", have released their debut EP, “PTX Volume 1”. Described by Rollingstone.com to be “impossibly full sound,” the five-member band, named for the world’s most widely recognized five-note musical scale, is comprised of lead vocalists Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying and Kirstie Maldonado with vocal bass by Avi Kaplan and beatboxer Kevin Olusola, each who arrange all their own music using only their vocals as instruments.
Well let's beat box it with and get down in the PTX with Scott Hoying and Avi Kaplan, word!
MS: You guys are amazing! What inspired you to use your voices as instruments?
PTX: We were all in choir and we all love vocal music, it's organic, it comes from yourself, it's such an amazing feeling to perform it for other people. Kevin loves all types of music he came up with the beat boxing and it worked out perfectly.
MS: Most people never think to use their voices for anything other than singing.
PTX: Yeah, totally.
MS: I really love your guys mash-up of Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me" and Katy Perry's "Wide Awake".
PTX: We all listened to both songs and thought about which parts we really loved out of each song. Then we just put it together, and made sure all of the words worked with the melody. We really liked the feel of the Justin Bieber song so we kept the words, and we loved the chorus for the Katy Perry song, it was a very organic process.
MS: It's Amazing that you guys all found each other.
PTX: Yeah, it is really crazy that we all did find each other, it was obviously meant to be.
MS: When it happens organically it is meant, there's no way in your wildest dreams...
PTX: It's so crazy.
MS: You guys were on "The Sing Off" and that's where you met, I am assuming that was a good springboard for you.
PTX: Just to have millions of people watching you every week, the thing that was great about the show is it really was real, it represented you in the way you really are.
