Michael's Musings

Let's Get Physical!
Michael Shinafelt

"All night, I'll riot with you, I know you got my back and you know I got you, So come on (come on), come on (come on), come on (come on) Let's get physical" - Physical, Dua Lipa

What does Dua Lipa's song Physical have to do with ringing in 2021? I'm not sure if it means anything to you, but for me it does. Hey, it's my column and I'll do what I want to, seriously!

Moving on from 2020 isn't going to be like flipping a light switch, it's going to be more like running a marathon up a hill in San Francisco. Making way for a better future. It's going to be a challenge, but were up for it! Let's hit the Mother F#cking ground running Minions!

You always hurt the ones you love, I love you!

Let's hope 2021 sucks better than 2020

Consume mass quantities of Endorphins, you're gonna need em'!

In the name of all that is Holy, bring back the gym in 2021!

Always have hope

Please, you're not the only one that parties with Sex Demons

What am I doing for NYE? Being responsible, staying home and bingeing Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, so there!

Hypoallergenic dogs, fact or fiction?

Woman Crush of the Week - Dawn Wells, I mean who didn't love Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island? Rest in power beautiful soul

Knock, Knock, Knocking on the gates off Hell, why not? I ask you???

Binged The Flight Attendant - love it! Kaley Cuoco is fantastic! This is coming from someone who has never watched The Big Bang Theory.

Whores R US - discuss

Right now I am wondering what would Lucifer do?

Tunesday - Relax

Frankie Goes To Hollywood

Having seen Wonder Woman 1984, like most of you have. I noticed the distinct lack of any music from the year it's set, in the movie. "Yes" none of those great songs from 1984 were included. My guess is because it was thought they would take you out of the film and trigger memories of the song instead.

Well here is a blast from the 1984 past! Although it peaked at a mere 67 on the charts Frankie Goes To Hollywood Relax has become a song that has been used in many films and TV Shows. Most notably Brian DePalma's Body Double, where it was featured appropriately and prominently. Given that the song is about as they put it "shagging."

Seriously though, what song isn't?!

This could have been fun played over the montage where Steve is trying on clothes for Diana IMHO. "No" you say, well come up with a better song idea from 1984, and place it within the context of WW84. I double dog dare ya!

Check out the video for Relax after the jump!

Monday Motivation

The Dynamic Duo
LeAnn Rimes & Brandi Glanville

It's been a spell since I have posted any Monday Motivation, hey, motivation is hard during the Holidays with so many shiny things vying for ones attention. But here I go...

Today's motivation is "Moving On" - honestly I am quite surprised that reality star Brandi Glanville has finally buried the hatchet with singer LeAnn Rimes, but it makes me happy that she finally has.

As you may or may not recall LeAnn had an affair with Brandi's then husband Eddie Cibrian while the two were shooting a the TV Movie Northern Lights. Eddie and LeAnn later married.

Brandi carried on a quite volatile public feud with Rimes for years. But as of recently, not so much.

"Moving On" is a very healing thing and adds way more to your life than ill will. The photo above of the two of them in matching sequin masks is too cool, and should be more than enough to motivate good vibes the last Monday (Yay!) of 2020.

2020 has been rough so pay it forward Minions, and let's build a brighter 2021!

Just Because...Chilling

Chilling
Kiernan Shipka aka Sabrina

Just Because, baby it's cold outside, Just Because we've all been in hibernation and Just Because you've most likely been Netflix and chilling, here's what I binged yesterday season three of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

With the fourth and last season hitting the Netflix que this Thursday the 31st, New Year's Eve 2020, well now I know how I am going to spend NYE fer sure!

Spoilers Ahead: One of the things that I was completely into in season three is that Sabrina, who is Lucifer's daughter is now Queen of Hell. TBH I am quite envious of her, it makes me want to rule Hell, except as a King.

Carrying on, it was interesting how Sabrina's dueling nature, wanting to be a normal teenager and wanting the power that ruling Hell comes with, is "resolved" in the final episode of season three. I am sure it is going to cause plenty off issues and mayhem come this Thursday, I can't wait!

Hitting The Flight Attendant today on HBO Max, that's correct, I'm chilling!

The Morning After...

Tis the morning after Christmas 2020, I bet it isn't what you thought it would be last January 1st. But I'm sure we all made the best of it, right???

Well mine was rather low key as I am sure most of yours were. Breakfast with a friend then I streamed Wonder Woman 1984. What did I think of WW84? Hmmmmmmm...that's a multi-layered question.

The first WW was so bank, this one was not as good (which is usually the case with sequels) but it had it's moments and bigger ideas like it's predecessor. My main issue is it was a pretty disjointed film.

Do I think it's worth seeing? Overall "Yes" - there are many things about the movie that make it still worth your while. Notably Kristen Wiig as Cheetah (except for the crappy CGI they did for her in the action sequences.)

Patty Jenkins, like in the first WW, makes sure there is heart to this epic. That's what ultimately made the original a home run, and saves this one from being a total disaster.

But make no mistake, overall I thought this outing was hit and miss.

Michael has left the building...

"So Baby" - Ariel Beesley

"So Baby"
Ariel Beesley

Merry Christmas Minions! "Yes" I have a present for all of you. Today a quite talented and amazing young woman, singer/songwriter Ariel Beesley joins me. She is here to chat about her current hot single "So Baby" and much, much more...

So without further explanation, herrrrrrrre's Ariel!!!

MS: Let's talk about So Baby, I love how it takes a term of endearment "Baby" and subverts it into a something entirely different. How did the song come about?

AB: Well, long story short I was mad as hell. I had dated a lot of immature boys and I basically just funneled that rage into a song to feel better and stronger about it.

MS: I've seen by your social media that the response to it has been great, you must be really stoked!

AB: Yes! I write music for myself, because my songs are like therapy. But obviously it is always nice when other people connect with it too, I’m very grateful.

                                                                         Lyric Video
                                                                           "So Baby"

MS: Tell everyone, are there any artists whose music you are a fan of, who are a fan of your music?

AB: I’m really lucky to be surrounded by a bunch of artists and musicians, and we all support each other. In a normal world, going to each other’s shows and so forth. So that's awesome. One day I hope Robert Smith hears my music and digs it haha

MS: You are an avid reader, and compose some really great lyrics IMHO. Name some of your inspirations for your writing.

AB: Thank you so much! That means a lot to me because the writing always comes first. My words are very important to me. My main inspiration for my writing is honestly just my life. But I love poetry. I recently finished Rupi Kuar’s new book and it was lovely. And Anais Nin is another one of my favorite writers. I love her boldness.

MS: One of my favorite things about you is your activism. Especially in terms of Women's Rights, extrapolate on this, please.

AB: Well this year I feel really lucky to have founded my nonprofit organization- U Start Here. It is a nonprofit specifically geared towards helping survivors of sexual assault. As a survivor myself it’s a topic that is extremely important to me, and It’s been incredible connecting with so many survivors and professionals also seeking out this kind of work. I’m very humbled and very proud.

Express Yourself
Ariel Beesley

MS: As I recall we both share a love of a certain TV show: Law & Order: SVU - what is it you love about it?

AB: God damn I’ve been watching SVU since I was a kid haha. I’ve always found it strangely comforting. I think it’s the fact that most of the time the bad guy gets put away. If only real life were so.

MS: What has been keeping you sane during the Pandemic?

AB: Honestly writing music. I’ve written 6 songs during the quarantine that will all be on my debut album and I’m really excited about that.

MS: I miss seeing you perform live.

AB: Ahhh thank you. that’s what I miss most about quarantining. I honestly don’t mind staying home. But the lack of shows. That’s been tough

MS: Name five people living or not, who you would like to have a dinner party with.

AB
Anais Nin
Frank Sinatra
Debbie Harry
Robert Smith
Maya Angelou

MS: What do you wish for 2021?

AB: Live music to return, people to be healthy, and happiness

Barnyard Christmas

Legendary country music singer/songwriter and animal advocate David Frizzell, is supporting animal rescue with his new ten-song CD and storybook, Barnyard Christmas. This original project presents the story of the birth of Christ as told by animal characters that were present in the manger.

“The greatest story ever told…the birth of Christ as told by the animals that were there. What a blessing for me to create these amazing animated characters as they tell of their participation in the birth of Christ and the wonderfully talented artist, graphic designers, musicians, singers, studio engineers, and co-producer who help bring the whole project to life. From my heart to yours,” shares Frizzell.

With Barnyard Christmas, Frizzell gives a unique perspective on the meaning of Christmas, through the eyes of animals that were present at the birth of Jesus. The album and accompanying storybook presents a tender and whimsical musical tale, woven brilliantly by Frizzell with guests Allen Frizzell and the Martin Family Circus, and an impressive list of talented musicians.

To order the CD and storybook, visit www.davidfrizzell.com for more information.

About David Frizzell:
David Frizzell was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, in 1941. He began touring with his legendary brother, Lefty Frizzell at the age of 12 throughout the 1950s and 60s. After serving in the Air Force, Frizzell signed with Columbia Records in 1970 and charted his first Billboard single with “L.A. International Airport” and then a Top 40 with “I Just Can’t Help Believing.”

During the 1970s, Frizzell appeared regularly on Buck Owens' All American TV Show and began recording for Capitol Records. In 1981, he recorded his first number-one country hit, "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma," a duet with Shelly West. The song won the Country Music Association's Song of the Year and Vocal Duet of the Year awards in 1981, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and was featured in Clint Eastwood's film ‘Any Which Way You Can.’ Frizzell and West also won the Academy of Country Music award for Vocal Duo of the Year in 1981 and 1982.

In 1982, Frizzell released “I’m Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home,” which made its way to number one. In recent years, Frizzell created his own label Nashville America Records, and has released several albums including Frizzell & Friends: This Is Our Time which includes a bonus track, written in honor of Lefty Frizzell, Merle Haggard, and traditional music in general. “Lefty, Merle & Me” features David with Marty Haggard.

David Frizzell is a timeless and tireless entertainer who continues to share his many gifts to the delight of fans old and new across the US and throughout the world. In 2020, Frizzell signed a distribution deal with Time Life / Warner Music Group to release his catalog of recordings.

Winter Solstice Queen

Hail The Queen!
Dua Lipa

"Don't look around, The leaves are brown, And the sky is a hazy shade of winter" Hazy Shade of Winter, Simon & Garfunkel

Today is officially the first day of the Winter of our discontent. Buck up the year is almost over, in the meantime check out the ever so talented Dua Lipa wearing all white on her recent Saturday Night Live gig.

Dua is Winter chic and the perfect way to represent and kick off the Winter Solstice.

I had merely heard of Ms. Lipa prior to her Future Nostalgia album. Which I gave a listen to and LOVE!

Thus I will also being listening to Lipa (say that three times fast) today while looking at her in her Winter finest to "celebrate" the first and shortest day of the longest year.

Fingers crossed it the kick off for Winter doesn't feel like a year unto itself, that's why I getting down with Dua to help make the day more jolly.

Ho Ho Ho...5 More Days!

Hurry Down My Chimney...
Ryan Phillippe

With a mere 5 days left until the "Big C" let's continue our countdown to Christmas with another Sexy Santa, this one comes in the form of Ryan Phillippe.

Ryan as you may know is currently starring on the TV Show Big Sky, however this photo looks like Phillippe the vintage years. You know when he did two of my favorite movies I Know What You Did Last Summer & Cruel Intentions. The latter edging out the former on the how much I like it scale.

So here we have Ryan in all his shirtless Sexy Santa glory for you to behold. Behold him I said, do it and do it now!!!

Have you gotten your halls decked yet? Are your stocking hung? Well then have a ball and enjoy the last 5 days until Santa comes to your house and....

Down Home Blues

Down Home Blues: Miami, Atlanta, and the South Eastern States: Blues In The Alley

Three Disc Box Set, 83 superbly remastered tracks in total, featuring Richard Armstrong,
Willie (W.C.) Baker, Willie Brown, John Bullard, Ray Charles, Earl Hooker, Tommy Malone,
Jerry McCain, Poor Jim, Jimmy Wilson and more

Also includes a 78-page book featuring essays, rare period photographs, complete sessionography,
and extensive gallery of original 78 and 45 record labels

Available in the US on December 18th via Wienerworld (UK) - PRE-ORDER NOW

Wienerworld is proud and excited to present to you the fifth box set in our unmissable Down Home Blues series, exploring the unique regions of the African American blues scene.

Blues In The Alley features 29 artists that were influential in continuing and developing the traditions of the blues in the southeast. This release includes early down home blues recordings from none other than Ray Charles, before his climb to fame with his bigger sounding jazz-tinged blues. Alongside this, there are early recordings from Earl Hooker and Jerry McCain, two exceptionally gifted musicians who were always left on the cusp of success. Don't forget to check out the first recordings from Frank Edwards, who captivated audiences with his rack-mounted harmonica guitar one man band style, from the 1940s right up to his last years of performing and recording in 2003.

Down Home Blues: Miami, Atlanta & The South Eastern States is a three CD set, packaged in a deluxe digipak with outer slipcase, featuring 83 tracks, all of them superbly remastered. This collection has been collated thanks to the generous help of blues collectors from both sides of the Atlantic, with rare recordings that are for the first time made available for listening via today's compact disc medium.

An outstanding 78-page book, featuring a 15,000-word essay by blues historian Chris Bentley, accompanies the release. Rare period photographs illustrate the essay throughout with a complete sessionography and extensive gallery of original 78 and 45 record labels. Blues In The Alley is a close companion to Wienerworld's Tough Enough collection (WNRCD5104), with both sets dovetailing the post-war blues from America's north and southeastern states. The southeastern states were known as slow starters in having record companies to start up to record, produce and distribute the artistes that were performing on their own doorsteps after WWII.

The best chance for any blues artistes in this region, looking to record, was to get up to New York for any opportunity to arise. By 1950 things certainly were different, and new recording companies who had taken the time and trouble to record such fine music had made up for a lot of lost time. Blues In The Alley captivates the efforts of those producers who gambled on their feel for the music – and their pockets to produce sounds from unadulterated country blues to the hard-edged electric tough blues sounds similar to that then being recorded in Chicago and Detroit.

Happy Birthday 2 Me!

Guess What Today Is???
Michael Shinafelt

Today is my Birthday and it's also one week until Christmas, Woot! Every year I do a post to celebrate it, usually containing some reflection about where I've been and how far I have come.

Well, not so much this year. This year has been a challenge for us all. My take from it is we as a collective whole are more resourceful and stronger than we initially thought ourselves to be.

Thus on my Birthday I am grateful for each and every one of us, we are still in tough times, but remember tough times don't last, tough people do!

Our 2021 is looking brighter, wiser and full steam ahead with a lot of perseverance and hard work there is nothing that can stop us. We are all in this together, and, yes we can!

Michael's Musings

A Little Bit Dramatic
Michael Shinafelt

Even though the photo above states that I am "dramatic" at present, I am actually, quite assuredly not in the zone. Quite the contrary, I am hunkering down and staying in as much as possible during this time per request and Netflix and chilling and really enjoying it 😊

The only thing "dramatic" are some of the things I am viewing other than that, drama free is the phrase I would use to best describe life, right here, right now. How's your quarantine going?

If Trump was smart he'd drop the election fraud nonsense and launch a reality show where his three children battle over one Presidential Pardon...

BTW I know what you saw upset you, sarcasm won't change that

Hump Day & Chill

No Explanation Need

Today's Hump Day & Chill word is meditate. That's correct Minions for the first time in a while I feel calm and hopeful about the world around me. While I know I am a tad late to the table with this, a large part of these good vibes are because it's official Biden/Harris are going to be in office soon!

In fact, they are Time Magazine's Person Of The Year! Imagine that? Well actually you don't have to, it's a reality. We've all collectively got a lot of work to do in these next four years, but at least we can breathe easier, and, well meditate.

So take some time and Hump Day & Chill for yourself and the world by letting loose your wonderful positivity into the universe.

Just do it!

Ho, ho, ho - here we go again, with a mere 10 days until Christmas we count it down with more Sexy Santa time!!!

Well it looks like Kendall Jenner has been a naughty girl based on the fact that Santa is giving her a spanking. I wonder what Ms. Thang did to get the full treatment from Mr. Claus. Or perhaps it what she didn't do that brought it.

Maybe, just maybe this is what she wanted for Christmas and has been a very good girl, and this is her Christmas Kink (say that three times fast.)

Hobo Chic
Colin Farrell

Just Because it's Monday and we all need motivation, Just Because I'm in the mood for some Man Candy & Just Because we all need some levity and leering. It's time for some Colin Farrell, woot!

See Colin looking "So Fetch" dressed down and getting himself some, coffee, that is. What did you think I was going to say? Tell me, and tell me now. OK, fine be that way.

Moving on, Colin is the epitome of Pandemic dressed down chic is his reindeer pajama bottoms and tattered sweat shirt. Hey, who says some random, worn out items from your wardrobe thrown on with only comfort in mind can not be sexy. These days being and looking comfortable is pretty exciting on many levels.

Thus today, why don't you throw on whatever you damn well want and wear it in public and, well, strut!

14 More Days...

Hello Santa...
Pamela Anderson

As you can see I am trying my best to get into the Holiday mood, it's been a tough year for us all, thus it's the least I could do.

With Christmas a mere 14 days away I thought I would continue what I started on Hump Day with Jared Leto. That's correct Minions, it's Sexy Santa time again in the form of Pamela Anderson.

Nothing says sexy, or sex for that matter quite like Pam. She's sure to put some pep in your something today as you toil away the hours until a scant two weeks from today.

"Yes" Christmas arrives on a Friday this year, of course it does, because we won't be able to celebrate like we have in past years. But we are resilient and will do what Martha Stewart advises in situations like these: Improvise.

Sending good vibrations today, with some T.G.I.F! for good measure...!!!

Michael's Musings

Sykes on Mike
Wanda Sykes & Michael Shinafelt

This week Instagram was caught up in a wave of a whole new thing. That thing was to place yourself with a celebrity or something, that rhymed with your name. For example Selma Blair placed herself with Cher i.e. Cher on Blair. Thus even though I go by Michael and, let's face it, nothing gels with Shinafelt. The only thing I could find to rhyme with my name is if I went by Mike.

So I hereby bequeath you Sykes on Mike! Hey, who could resist such tomfoolery? Not me, moving on...

Hump Day & Chill

Santa Baby!!!
Jered Leto

Today's Hump Day & Chill is all about Sexy Santa..."Yes" Minions, Santa can be sexy especially when he takes on the form of a shirtless Jared Leto.

Jared shirtless as a Sexy Santa is certainly what I would like to stuff my stocking this Christmas and with scant 16 days until then and all the Quarantine that has been going on, he'd better hurry his booty on my chimney stat!!!

Oh, and let's be honest, other than his bare chest, doesn't Mr. Leto have the most dreamy, intense eyes??? Imagine those looking at you as you are below him, I said imagine it!!!

So Minions it's time for a Hump Day & Chill Holiday style, or whichever style you like. If you get my drift, and I think you do...

Mic Drop!
