The Morning After

WTF?!
Michelle Obama & Hillary Clinton
"There's got to be a morning after, If we can hold on through the night
We have a chance to find the sunshine, Let's keep on looking for the light"

- Maureen McGovern Theme from The Poseidon Adventure

Well it's the morning after and although we didn't board the SS Poseidon it certainly feels like we are on a sinking ship.

The majority of you, like myself, are still feeling like they are in an alternate universe, an episode of The Twilight Zone to be more specific. Well honestly we are.

However I am going about my usual Saturday routine of drinking my smoothie and heading to my spin class at Gold's Gym. Life does not stop because a bigly bully is now our commander and chief.

With this being said I am going to leave you with the image above on the first day of what is for sure going to be a turbulent voyage to say the least.

Michelle Obama & Hillary Clinton looking at each other says it all without any verbiage.

Make the morning after awesome for yourselves and your sanity.

Time for my Blueberry smoothie.

Remember that catchy/obnoxious/over optimistic tune from the Broadway Musical Annie? Of course you fucking do, who could ever forget it?! It really is genius whether you like it or not for that reason alone.

Well Annie, it's a Hard Knock Life and I'm not so sure about what tomorrow will bring, but the reign has come girl!

It's time for me to get in formation and sound off!

"Belle is a Better Role Model Than Cinderella"

Ring My "Belle"
Emma Watson
Never did I think the day would come when I would take seriously a case being made that Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast is a better role model than their Cinderella is.

But and however, when the person presenting the evidence is one Ms. Emma Watson I listen. Her opinions are articulate, intelligent and immaculately stated.

Ms. Watson actually turned down the role of the glass slipper losing princess in Kenneth Branagh's film, who was ultimately portrayed by Lily Collins. She was then offered Beauty and the Beast. The character of Belle resonated with her so much more.

Here is the reason she feels Belle trumps Cindy any given day (source E!Online):

Watson argues Belle is a much better "role model" than Cinderella. "She remains curious, compassionate and open-minded. And that's the kind of woman I would want to embody as a role model, given the choice," she explains. "There's this kind of outsider quality that Belle had, and the fact she had this really empowering defiance of what was expected of her. In a strange way, she challenges the status quo of the place she lives in, and I found that really inspiring. She manages to keep her integrity and have a completely independent point of view. She's not easily swayed by other people's perspective—not swayed by fear-mongering or scapegoating."

Well, you can't argue this now, can you? You can try, but...

Working "9 to 5"

Trio
l-r Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin & Dolly Parton

Well this should be fun! Jane Fonda & Dolly Parton are going to present Lily Tomlin the 53rd SAG Lifetime Achievement Award at the what else? The 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 29th

OK, I don't get the 53 and 23 thing, but I do comprehend why the award is being presented on the SAG Award Show. It really doesn't matter anyway when it brings us 9 to 5 reunion, right?!

"Yes" Fonda, Tomlin & Parton have remained close friends all these years since their classic work place comedy 9 to 5 was released December 19th 1980, the day after my Birthday, there's a piece of trivia I bet  you didn't know before.

I was taken to see it that weekend actually (I wasn't old enough to drive yet and of course you know my Mother wanted to see it too) What a fun movie it was and still is.

This will make the SAG Awards a must see for me this year, well at least this part of the show, and I am sure this news has put a smile on all your collective faces, thus I have done my job.

Later and have a Groovy Tuesday

Shopping From A - Z

Poser
Jennifer Lopez
Today we are celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. and that means most of you out there are rejoicing as it is another three day weekend. Cheers to that!

So I thought why not celebrate it with the time honored three day weekend tradition of, what else? Shopping...!!!

Witness one hot Mama, Jennifer Lopez posing for photos while out shopping in Los Angeles. It appears that she ditched the swag to play mannequin for the paparazzi. She gives good face, you must admit.

You just know she can shop 'till she drops too!

Since shopping has never been my thing I plan on doing some cleaning & organizing today.

What are your plans?

In memory of Martin Luther King Jr. and in celebration of having an extra day to yourselves, have a good one!

Who Is That Masked Man???

The Mummy Starring
John Stamos
Seriously, I would have never guessed it was John Stamos behind the mask. He's pretty mummified, thus it's too hard to really tell who it is.

That being stated, while I never found Stamos attractive when he was younger, ever since he has hit his 50's he has really come into his own and well, yeah, the guy is hotter than he has ever been. There I said it now leave me alone.

I'm going to have to do some detective work to find out what he masks his face with because whatever the magical elixir is, it is doing a bang up job! Love to keep what I have looking fresh in my 50's too.

Well I am off to spin soon at Gold's Gym Hollywood, yep, that's the way I roll on Sunday mornings, however you roll have a groovy day!!!

The Elephant In The Room

Open Wide
Anderson Cooper & Friend
Woke up this morning got myself a bowl of blueberries and some Tejava Tea and started feeling perky. Caffeine and antioxidants will do that to ya.

Perky generally makes me silly, and I guess that makes this a Silly Saturday.

Not that this image of Anderson Cooper and an elephant is necessarily silly, but it certainly has the power to be. It also can evoke a number of other emotions, but most importantly none of them would be negative. There is a lot of that going around these days, I can't imagine why...Not!!!

Well I am onto my next piece of fruit this ayem a banana and then off to spin.

Have a whoop ass Saturday and get silly with it!

Michael's Musings

I'm Not Bad, I'm Just Photographed That Way
Michael Shinafelt
So 2017 is picking up a little steam this week, and IMHOP not in a good way.

It's that time of the week again, yep, I have a weekly, for my take on everything. Here we go, here we go now, get busy!

My best advice to everyone this year? Be your own fucking star!!!!

Honestly I really don't care about Donald Trump's fixation on golden showers, so what? What bothers me is him being a sociopath.

In case you give a crack, I got a bicycle this week, Yay me!

Bicycle, Bicycle!
There will always be overrated rim job queens

My producer friend Shani Bayne accidentally included me on her production group text conversation. Girl I now know when you are sleeping and I know when you are awake.

Maresa Wickham you rock! Literally. Like me!

Fox News said Casey Anthony won Best Actor for Manchester By The Sea at The Golden Globe's. Ummmmm, it was Casey Affleck. But Casey Anthony wins best liar who was set free for killing her baby. Her and OJ Simpson have a lot they could talk about.

Get "Snatched" Wednesday

Getting In "Formation"
Amy Schumer & Goldie Hawn
While I was a little taken back by Goldie Hawn's appearance on the Golden Globe's this past weekend, and to clarify by "appearance" I don't mean the fact that she was on the show. I know why she was on with one Ms. Amy Schumer, they have a movie coming out May 12th called Snatched and I can't wait!

Both women are brilliant on screen comedians and even if the movie falls short of their talents I am willing to bet their chemistry and considerable skills will make it worth the watch.

This is one of those rare dream teams that hit the silver screen that compels you to buy a ticket just to see them werk!

As you may or may not recall the two first teamed up for a brilliant parody of Beyonce's song Formation.

Check out the funny as fuck trailer below and watch your ass!

As we are all getting our 2017 sea legs and aren't quite in the groove yet I thought to myself "Self why not run some man candy today" - while surfing the WWW I spied this pic of Jake Gyllenhaal in St. Barts looking edible.

That's how I roll, and so I am giving you Titty Tuesday realness, of the male variety.

It makes me want to dive in the pool, if you catch my drift....

Red Carpet Ready, Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Red Carpet Ready? You Bet!
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Nothing, I mean nothing will top Meryl Streep's Golden Globe speech last night. I thought about running it today since it was in a word, amazing, but of course by now everyone has posted and re-posted it so I decided to go another direction.

Here without further hyperbole is my favorite Instagram post about the Golden Globes...Julia Louis-Dreyfus! Although she did not win this year for her HBO show Veep she's a winner in my book for this photo which she captioned:

"About to hit the red carpet & feeling confident. @goldenglobes@veephbo @karenkawahara#goldenglobes"

Confident, obviously. Who other than JLD would have the chutzpah to post an image as funny/hot/cool as this I ask you???

Do you remember your first time watching the Golden Globes? Hell maybe you've even attended them. For the record I have no recollection of when I popped my GG cherry. That being stated I know I have been watching them for what feels like forever, and I plan to, tonight.

So I thought to myself what better way to celebrate them by running a few photos of some big name stars first time at the rodeo. Happy Globe Day

Pretty In Polka Dots, Natalie Portman

Shopping From A-Z
Natalie Portman
Because it's award season, because she is earning raves for her performance as Jacqueline Kennedy, because she can rock a polka dot dress, because she's well, Natalie Portman for Taco Tuesday's sake!

Ms. Portman, Natalie if your nasty was snapped out and about very pregnant and shopping in Los Feliz, CA. See the bag in her hand that says Skylight? That is actually the name of an awesome book store nestled in among the many hipster shops and restaurants in this area of Los Angeles

Yes, I have been there, that's how I know.

This photo also serves me as a reminder that I have to see Natalie in Jackie, everyone I know says she is amazing in the film and the film itself isn't too shabby either. She is sure to nab a Best Actress Nomination come Oscar time.

Happy Saturday Peeps and be proud of your polka dots

“Kiefer Sutherland...slows down and unwinds on his debut album, a collection of 11 rough-edged country songs…The album has an unexpected, unvarnished authenticity that is pleasant, if sometimes familiar.”
-Jill Lawless, Associated Press

“The perfect soundtrack for your Americana, dive bar road trip, “All She Wrote” starts off with an intro that would sound right at home during the duel scene in a modern western. Sutherland’s gritty vocals overlap electric guitar and crashing drums…”

Michael's Musings

Hazy Shade Of Winter
Michael Shinafelt
We are a mere five days into 2017 and no celebrity deaths have occurred. Give it time it's still too soon after the three major ones at the end of 2016.

If only I could give you a juicy bone to gnaw on, but alas there is not too much to say at this premature stage of the NY. Give it some time, there is going to be plenty to rant about, love and be grateful for, soon.

So here are my meager offerings as of now, drama free and without interruption.

Best thing about New Year's weekend? The Twilight Zone marathon on the SyFy Network

Mariah Carey really needs a reality check and to change her first name to Pariah.

Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher & Debbie Reynolds on HBO. Can't wait!

Honestly, if you haven't seen Leah Remini exposing Scientology on her A&E docu-series you haven't lived. Cross my heart.

If you take quotes from Law & Order: SVU out of context, they are really quite funny.

Quote of the Week: "It makes me sad when anyone calls LGBTQ people perverts, because that means they don't know that straight people can have good sex too" - Faith Choyce, Comedian

BTW the Golden Globes are this Sunday, in case you care.
Vanderpump Rules
Not So Much Anymore
Is it me or is Vanerpump Rules really fucking staged this season. Transparently so, I have now dubbed the show A Gaggle Of Twats.

Just the other day I was "lucky" enough to board a subway car with a black gentleman bellowing to another how white people disrespect him all the time. Really? You mean you talking shit at the top of your lungs in a public place isn't disrespecting anyone???

Which reminds me I got an PM on Facebook the other day from someone chiding me for the use of #hastags - really. If that is your biggest issue in life go Fuck yourself.

Monkey Mat Mama's, why not I ask you?

It's 2017! "Send In The Clowns"

Wait! They're already here!

A Love Letter to Stephen Sondheim was filmed in May 2016 at The Boettcher Concert Hall in Denver, CO. Judy Collins takes the audience through Sondheim's remarkable treasure-trove of music, interweaving stories of Broadway with her personal anecdotes.

"I have loved the songs and the shows of Stephen Sondheim since recording "Send in the Clowns" in my album Judith in 1974," said Collins "My version of the great Sondheim ballad has garnered a Grammy, the top ten slot in Billboard twice in a decade, and is still played on the radio all over the world. Ever since the success of "Send in the Clowns" I have longed to sing the rest of Sondheim's greatest songs. Now, I have the opportunity do to that. These songs glow with familiarity and inhabit the rooms and vistas of all our lives, scenes and melodies from "Little Night Music," "Sweeney Todd," "Sundays in the Park with George," "Company," "Merrily We Roll Along" and "Into the Woods." I pray to do justice to these great songs, and to their composer, one of our National Treasures, Stephen Sondheim."

All orchestrations are by Jonathan Tunick, who has been orchestrating Stephen Sondheim's musicals for decades. Tunicks's orchestration was used by Collins for "Send in the Clowns, " bring Sondheim his only chart topping song in his esteemed history. Collins is joined on the program by the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Glen Cortese.

The DVD can be ordered at the MVD Shop or on Amazon
